(CNN)Beckett Cypher, the son of Melissa Etheridge and her former partner Julie Cypher, has died, a representative for the singer told CNN. He was 21.
The singer mourned her son in a social media post on Wednesday.
"Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction," Etheridge wrote on Twitter. "My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends."
She added: "My heart is broken."

(51,644 posts)Addiction is often genetic and his dad, well....had well known substance problems. They have a daughter, Bailey, who was also fathered by David's sperm. I hope she didn't inherit the same disease.

sperm donor. I feel terrible for everyone involved, but that was not a good choice.

(5,945 posts)I remember wisecracking to some friends at the time, "Well, all I can say is that any woman who decides to have a child made of David Crosby's genetic material has certainly earned the right to title her album 'Brave and Crazy'".
That's sure not funny now. I loved the magazine stories of their happy home, and somehow never believed it could end in tragedy, regardless of Crosby's genetic susceptibility to the illness.
