Gov. Whitmer signs order partially opening Upper Michigan & part of Lower Michigan

Last edited Mon May 18, 2020, 04:10 PM - Edit history (1)

"Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made the announcement Monday afternoon about loosening stay-at-home restrictions in Upper Michigan and northern Lower Michigan.

The governor said Regions 6 and 8 will reopen partially at 12:01 a.m. ET on Friday, May 22. Region 6 is the Traverse City-area, and Region 8 is the entire Upper Peninsula.

Businesses that are opening up in a limited capacity include bars, restaurants, retail locations, and offices.

The bars and restaurants will have to limit their capacity to 50 percent. Groups will be required to stay 6 feet apart and servers will have to wear face coverings."

I really wanted to go up to Mackinaw Island, this Summer. I'm putting that plan on hold.

I assume the Cherry Festival is still cancelled?

And the film festival? ALthough that doesn't tale place until the first week of August.

We're still not going anywhere. We go the UP maybe once every ten years. and Traverse usually once a summer. We've already decided we're spending the summer in the back yard around the pool. If it EVER STOPS RAINING. May
is completely shot.

There are a lot of festivals all along the Gold coast; Charlevoix, Petoskey,
The Mission Peninsula, Suttons Bay...wonder if they are all cancelled.

It has to happen sometime. I live in the U.P. and people are getting antsy to get out and a'bout. There is no Covid-19 here, YET!!!! Lots of beautiful vacation homes and outdoor recreation. Many older folks are living in the U.P. (high population of elders) and don't want rich vacationers and seasonal residents coming up and bringing this virus. I guess we will see .... WEAR YOUR MASKS if you do venture here, please

Pretty much everyone I know who has their own places up north or know friends/family with places up there are planning on heading up asap now. Not sure how many you will get in the UP, but I am sure TC and Houghton/Higgens lakes area is going to get swamped.

who have been really responsible in trying to stop this pandemic ... a major trait of folks from up here is, responsibility for their neighbors, sick and elderly. WE CAN'T afford to lose just one of us!

I plan on keeping up the stay at home procedures for the forseeable future. I definitely will NOT be in the flock heading north.
