I have sometimes suggested to some folks to avoid arguing or even discussing politics with ardent trump supporters. Today a large light went on for me in the form of a quote from a movie which the character purported to be an old saying but one I can't seem to find anywhere. (Disclaimer: my search lasted for about 5 minutes before a headache started.)
The quote:
"Logic will fail to talk someone out of something, logic did not talk them into."
This is one of the best explanations addressing why arguing trump supporters is a waste 99.99% of the time. In my opinion, the hardened core of his support is among folks who support him due to belief rather than reason.

I tell them I feel sorry for them. That they are being used and are just a mark.

Their only hope is to wake up and stop hating. I don't want to be an excuse for them to hate a little bit more.
