General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just noticed something about Rachel and her guests
When her guests are learned professionals, e.g. scientists, legal scholars, medical professionals, researchers, etc., they feel comfortable talking to her. They don't feel like they have to dumb things down or face a combative interview with some grandstanding idiot like Tucker Carlson.

(32,940 posts)Anything in the set up to the interview. She is also highly intelligent herself.

(14,600 posts)She is not afraid that the guest will disagree with her 'line' because she's actually trying to establish facts.

(2,123 posts)....you could forget for a minute that it was "television".
I try to watch the early livestream but it's usually too widely watched so I have to wait for the rerun, but I watch the rerun. She packs an incredible amount of info into one hour too.

(53,410 posts)Her show is unique. She doesnt follow a set pattern on her show. If she thinks something is important she makes it the topic for as long as she sees fit. Sometimes shell stay on one topic for days like she just did with the pandemic and with Trumps criminal response to it. She talked about the meat packing plants a lot. Now this week shes interviewing all the governors who have been dealing with the shutdown. She asks them questions and then shuts up and lets them talk. Ive seen shows where some of her guests go on a rant against something like the kids in cages and she just lets them talk.
She goes deep into stories in her own way. And we come out much better informed.

(391 posts)Insightful observation. They feel at ease because she prepares and treats them with the respect they deserve. Journalism is supposed to be that way. It used to be.

(24,380 posts)says something, or takes a position some DU'er doesn't like!
It is the ONLY major news outlet that has a definitive lean to the left, yet there is ALWAYS someone who finds fault in something one host or another says.
It was Chris Hayes the other day. It is Joe Scarborough and Mika on a regular basis. It was "Tweety" for years, even though Chris Matthews was constant in his advocacy for normalcy, if nothing else.
I'm glad to see this OP, and the point you make is spot on correct, but it strikes me as odd that so many on this board can get so bent out of shape if someone on that network sets ONE FOOT off the bandwagon.
It really does make this board look stupid, sometimes.

(402 posts)I totally agree, BUT the one person that I really have a problem with is Andrea Mitchell. It's not so much what she says but that she can't read a teleprompter to save her life. She is pretty good when she's not hosting. Her foreign policy experience is good but man... when she has to interview people, she hems and haws all over the place. I say... "just spit it out, Andrea," on a regular basis. She needs to retire. Sorry for the rant.

(114 posts)I love the way she starts out her segment by giving some background on what she's going to be talking about. Her show was the first I saw talking about the plane that came to the US full of infected passengers and the well passengers didn't know they had flown back to the US along with infected passengers until they arrived. She's awesome!
