taking up two parking spaces. Parked right on the line separating the two spaces. Right near the store entrance, too.
I didn't get mad, though. I mean, the owner's saving the planet, right? That's a thoughtful thing to do, right?
Hmm...
we can do it

(15,187 posts)But if you add all the goodies to one of those cars, you can spend over $100,000. So don't you think an entitled jerk like that deserves to take two parking spaces?
Could be worse. Could have been parked in a disabled spot without a tag.
Sheesh.

(8,927 posts)and I don't park taking up two spaces. I do have an automobile i value as much as a Tesla and I park waaaaay out in the lot and walk. I understand why they did it, but it's rather selfish.
My problem is with people that don't care, like they have electric door openers and can't be bothered to not bash you door in. Probably Trumpers, lol.
MineralMan
(146,340 posts)It's in a pull-through space, so I can drive straight out, rather than backing out.
Nobody parks out there, though. Too far to walk, I guess.

Or take a bus.
I have seen other expensive wagons parked across three (once even four!) spots. The point is simple-- my car is special and I can't take the chance that any of you serfs touch it.
This is sort of person who would never be caught dead in a Bolt.

(73 posts)So you can get a Tesla model 3 loaded up pretty well for $50k
Can you tell me where I can get a free car with dedicated super chargers coast to coast with the same kind of range plus a tax credit?
TreasonousBastard
(43,049 posts)First, who's really going to drive a Tesla, or anything else, coast to coast like the Cannonball Run? I know plenty of people who have driven cross country, but rarely 250 miles a day and up. Gonna need a lot of miles to find the next open charger in some places, too.
Now, you can plan such a trip without too many hassles, but why have to plan it?
Back to the environmental angle-- you do not need a Tesla (or Porsche, for that matter) to show your environmental cred. Its more like showing off. Toyota and a few others make nice electric cars. And there's always that Bolt.
Tesla's tax credit is over most places, btw.
Newland56
(73 posts)So you are saying that the only reason to buy a Tesla is to show off?
I think there might be more to the picture...
For me, I wanted to support the only company that doesnt make gasoline cars.
At the time I purchased my first Tesla they were expensive but I wanted to support them.
To date Toyota does not have an electric only car.
There are not many all electric choices that have 200+ miles of range.
Is elon musk an oddball that makes some poor choices? Yup...but that doesnt take away from the cars he makes.
There really isnt another car maker that offers what Tesla does and now Tesla offers vehicles that have a price parity with other manufacturers only the specs far far exceed those other manufacturers in terms of quality, safety, recharge stations, resale value, etc etc etc
The claim was that you could buy another vehicle for 50k less and still get the tax credit.
Im asking where can I get an electric vehicle for 50k less than a Tesla model 3 long range and claim the tax credit?
The answer is that that doesnt exist and it appears the point you were trying to make is that Teslas are only for rich people and that is far far from the truth.
You can get a Tesla model 3 for nearly the same price as a Chevy bolt and have a nicer car with more range that is safer, holds its value better and has its own coast to coast charging network.

FoxNewsSucks
(10,435 posts)but you don't have to be an asshole like that to avoid it. I put over 200k on my cars and they look just as good when I sell them as when I bought them. I don't park next to other people, because there are too many jerks who open their doors into your car. Not maliciously, just carelessly.
So I park way out in the parking lot. I also look for spaces at the end of the row, so I can move further away from the next space. It's not that difficult to avoid door bangs without being an asshole about it.
I've also noticed that frequently when I go straight to the far end of the lot, I still walk in the door of the store sooner than the people circling around trying to find a spot close to the door.

(4,475 posts)I have owned an EV since 2014, and a Tesla since 2018, and run into people parked in EV charging spots at least once a month. The most fun one was a cluster of pickups blocking all the chargers in Hickory NC, just because.
There are jerks in every sub-group of humanity.

(146,340 posts)parking lot I've been to. So, I'm not familiar with what you describe. I wouldn't park in such a space, though.
Miguelito Loveless
(4,475 posts)This has happened a number of times at Tesla superchargers, though it also happens at other chargers. We refer to a gas car in an EV slot as "Icing" from ICE (internal combustion engine).
We also have trucks "roll coal" on us, which is were they have a switch in their truck that sprays diesel into the exhaust, causing billows of black smoke. So, the truck will swoop in front of you, "roll coal" and then block you when you try to change lanes or pass. I have only had it happen once (in my Leaf), but it happens enough in the EV community, that it is not exactly uncommon. It happens more with the Prius, the Leaf and any model Tesla, as these cars have a distinct look on the highway. Yes, it is illegal, and a few people have been fined. It has also started declining with Teslas, as word gets out about the 8 cameras on board used for autopilot can now actively record if the owner chooses. This captures license plates and illegal acts.
We also get our share of aggressive drivers tailgating and brake-checking us. I had one "semi-hostile" encounter with a fellow while charging who wanted to know why I would drive a "super expensive pussy golf cart", so I offered his a test ride. After a 15 minute ride (never exceeding the speed limit, but getting to it scorchingly fast, I pointed out that my car had likely cost $20K less than his truck new, but mine only cost 3¢ a mile for fuel (this was when diesel was around $3 in my area). I won't say I had a convert, but at least he was far friendlier at the end of the ride.
All that said, I must now also make a point that I do not approve, endorse, or in any way agree of Elon Musk's behavior, pronouncements, or pandering of the last few months, and find his actions very upsetting and divisive. Between his actions and Michael Moore's poorly researched and damaging Planet of the Humans, it has been a bad time for green energy and EVs.

(9,674 posts)And isolates the vehicle so it can be seen if tampered with and is out of the main flow of traffic.
Generally, in my experience, people that take up two spaces are egocentric buttholes who want you to take a back seat to them and their importance on this planet, even if their car is a piece of junk. Kind of like the people who vote for Trump, actually.

(73 posts)Im confused
Is this post something negative about the all electric vehicle?
Is it something bad about the person driving the car?
Would the post have been made if it was an F150 or a mustang? Would it have been made if it was a Chevy volt or bolt?
I once saw this same thing with a visualize world peace bumper sticker.
Me personally....if someone is a social asshole Im glad they are driving an environmentally friendly vehicle instead of a hummer instead of being a social AND environmental asshole

(146,340 posts)It's about drivers. Cars don't decide for themselves where to park. Drivers do.
Teslas aren't just EVs. They're also lifestyle vehicles. Big pickups are often parked to take up two spaces. That's no surprise. Happens all the time. It's their drivers who decide where and how to park.
Teslas are quite rare in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, for some reason. I see very few of them, actually.
there are tons of Priuses, though. I don't notice most EVs, really. I do notice people hogging two parking spaces, though.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. You seem nice.
Newland56
(73 posts)Could be true but coming from the 2 Priuss Ive had the Teslas total cost of ownership is on par with them and worlds better in safety and environmental impact.
No oil changes
No maintenance
Less than half the fossil fuel consumption
Able to carry more passengers and cargo
And only about $10k more than similarly speced Prius

taking up two spaces in a crowded parking lot.
I didn't park anywhere near it--managed to find a space far away from it when someone left the restaurant.
Before I went in, I left a note on the windshield. Something to the effect of, "Sorry about dinging your car. I was only trying to park my own car in a designated spot."
I hope the owner of the Camero spent considerable time and energy looking for a ding that wasn't there.

(8,419 posts)Similar to the BMW drivers in the 90's meme. In SoCal you DO NOT drive in the bike lane, one Tesla driver drove 1/4 mile in one during rush hour to squeeze by the rest of us. Then a day later I pull up to a stop, getting ready to drive through, guy in a Tesla rolls up and turns left in front of me, never stopped, then flips ME the bird.
After that one I had to call a friend who is a Tesla owner and ask, "when they give you the keys are you forced to watch a video on how to be an inconsiderate asshole?"
