'Deeply sorry': Twitter apologizes for Trump pushing conspiracy theory on Scarborough intern death

Twitter is seeking to expand its product features and policies after President Trump repeatedly pushed a conspiracy theory regarding the death of an intern who worked in former Rep. Joe Scarborough's congressional office.

The social media platform apologized on Tuesday morning for the president's insinuation that Scarborough, now a television host on MSNBC, may have been responsible for Lori Klausutis’s 2001 death via Twitter, which has prompted calls for the company to remove the tweets.

“We are deeply sorry about the pain these statements, and the attention they are drawing, are causing the family," a Twitter spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. "We've been working to expand existing product features and policies so we can more effectively address things like this going forward, and we hope to have those changes in place shortly."

The statement from Twitter came shortly after it was revealed that Klausutis’s widower, Timothy, pleaded with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in a letter sent last week to remove Trump’s tweets from the social media platform.

I have seen the harm they do.

The Dorsey apology is much too little, much too late. He needs to be boycotted!

Your platform is a means to an end for Trump and YOU are responsible for allowing it.

Your hack idiot staff at Twitter saw fit to ban my account forever after I tweeted that I hoped Trump "stroked out".

No effort to actually accuse him of murder salaciously.
No actual threat to his person or well-being.

Just a statement of fact - I would be MOST pleased to learn that the President died of a massive stroke.

Trump does 100X worse EVERY DAY....before he finishes his 4 AM dump.

Fuck Twitter.
Fuck Jack Dorsey.
And Fuck Donald Trump.

Hypocrites of a feather flock together. Clearly.

Id u weewee sawwry? Or is you doin' Pee Are?

Deeply sorry does nothing to alleviate the damage whatsoever and sits in the "road to hell is paved with good intentions" bin with "thoughts and prayers". That apology is a bit of an insult when you realize it is not really meaningful in a constructive sense.

Now about the revenue you made during this debacle? How does that fit into the apology? Right now, there is just more attention being paid to the venue.

I don't buy into any carefully thought out or canned corporate speak. It's like listening to someone you know is a sociopath and believing them and then being angry or resentful for doing what they did to you. The scorpion's nature is to sting you to death when you encounter it. You avoid it if you are able to and smart. What's not clear about that?

This new policy will likely be toothless, and Trump will continue spewing his incendiary, racist lies on Twitter without pause.

At this point, he must have violated every TOS, every rule, every regulation that Twitter has in place an inexcusable number of times.

Twitter: Take this enfant terrible's toy away from him NOW. This nasty child must suffer the consequences of his repulsive actions.
