John Krasinski's 'Some Good News' Sells to ViacomCBS Following Massive Bidding War

John Krasinski's Some Good News is on the move.

Following a massive bidding war, the feel-good web series has been licensed to ViacomCBS in a rich deal.

CBS All Access, which will be rebranded this summer and bolstered with more originals from across the ViacomCBS portfolio, will have the first window for the new episodes before they move to a number of the company's linear networks. While Krasinski will continue to be involved as an executive producer, he will not host the new episodes. A new host will be named at a later date, though Krasinski will have some sort of on-air presence. It's yet to be determined which of the ViacomCBS platforms will have the second window for new SGN episodes and whether the broadcast network will be involved. In addition to the new episodes, other shortform content that will live within the ViacomCBS fold will also be produced.

"Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring Some Good News to so many more people!" Krasinski said Thursday in a statement. "From the first episode, our goal was to create a news show dedicated entirely to good news. Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS."

I know a person has the right to make a buck off of their own labor, but I feel disappointed. This show was a little light in a time of darkness.. this move takes the shine off.

She was so excited when she found it, as it was an antidote to the daily torrent of bad news.

She feels betrayed.

4. Agree, this is a hugely scummy move of him. That's what we get for thinking he was just doing it...

out of the goodness of his heart. He just wanted to sell his idea, which is dumb because a good news network isn't a new idea at all. The only reason it worked was because he acted it so genuinely and brought back his office co-stars and stuff.

Wonder how many millions he got for it.

6. I don't understand the hostility to John Krasinski and this business decision.

As I understand John was done with this project, it was intended to have a limited run. What John did was ensure that his concept would go on under his control. No matter what John did here, this concept was going to be copied, now he has some control over this product. And to be upset because a business man created a product, marketed that product and then made money off of that product seems silly to me. Were you all upset when JK Rowling sold the Harry Potter franchise to be made into movies? John is not selling out, he is just selling. Any one of us could have done exactly what John did, but we didn't, for whatever reason (I just don't want to work that hard).

I never saw the show but now I'm interested.

And I think it's great that someone had the idea to start a good news program. We desperately need something to counter the toxicity of... everything.
