(31,261 posts)He stopped his truck. This guy seemed to have been trying to run over people. Big difference.
Don't get me wrong, I fucking hate street protests, for the very reason that we are witnessing, they can turn into mob scenes.

(1,086 posts)He was an idiot for going so fast let alone being where he shouldn't have been.
But it is clear that as soon as he saw the road blocked he hit the brakes. If you look that was a fuel truck any more aggressive breaking would have been even more dangerous because if he jackknifed and rolled fuel could have spread all over the road and if ignited would have been a major disaster.
This also meant that authorities had to move very quickly. There was basically a huge fire bomb sitting in the middle of a crowd.
The slope of the bridge is noticeable.
I've driven this bridge many times since it was rebuilt.

Somebody said that they where there and that's what was said. Sorry I just saw the video and would need a lot more then that.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,924 posts)and the MNDPS confirmed what happened. The truck seems to be a tanker carrying something flammable (there's a dangerous goods placard on the back); the whole thing could have been really disastrous. From the video on ch. 11 it sure didn't look accidental to me. The driver didn't seem to be trying to stop until he was well through the crowd.

(1,086 posts)They almost had to if only to get him out of there.
He may have indeed been meaning to intimidate the crowd. Who really knows. And that is the point. I've driven Semis I know exactly what I saw.
But look at the traffic cam again. He was yards clear of getting through the crowd when he stopped on inbound 35W. He could have slowly pushed through.
But also look at it from the police's view. They see a fuel truck come to a stop in the middle of crowd. Was it rigged to blow? They had to move fast. I do not know if the protestors would have believe them and left if they announced that, and neither did they.

(115,924 posts)when the truck came through. The truck was laying on the horn and driving quickly into the crowd. It finally stopped and the witness said he was one of the people who pulled the driver out of the cab, and that the driver said he intended to intimidate the crowd but not to hurt anyone. Some of the protesters started beating on the guy but others hung on to him and got him to the police, who arrested him. So far there are no reports of injuries to anyone except for the driver. The state DPS just confirmed.

(1,086 posts)That could be true. But who knows, We will need to see the actual report.
