Scarborough: This Biden ad is bad ass. Whoever put it together knows what they're doing.

Joe Scarborough's right. And this ad gets the message across, forcefully, in only 15 seconds.

I’ve grown up watching a lot of weak Democratic ads that don’t grab voters’ attention. This Biden ad is bad ass. Whoever put it together knows what they’re doing.

Nuclear war was a big deal back then.

Anyway, it helped Johnson whip Goldwater's ass.

And, no, I wasn't suggesting we revive that ad-- just something relevant to today that would cause the same kind of shock waves.

I didn't see it until many years later, and so it was something of a myth. Johnson won for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with this ad. It's actually gained in power over the years, but wasn't really all that powerful back then.

Sirens, person on stretcher being taken to hospital, Covid ward, person on ventilator—cut to Trump with line I take no responsibility. Then a few seconds of the several times Trump has called the virus a hoax or saying it will disappear, ending with that photo of multiple graves and then the statistics frame with number of per capita dead in USA Versus Germany, versus France, versus south Korea, etc. disappearing down the screen. End words: US Leadership: Worst Response to Virus in the World.

Jul 2020
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2014/04/16/a-man-and-his-ray-bans-the-story-of-joe-bidens-sunglasses/

Vice President Joe Biden joined Instagram with a bang today -- posting a photo of his famous/infamous Ray-Ban sunglasses in the foreground while the Veep read papers in the background. "Follow @VP for the latest from the Vice President, and the occasional aviators pic," reads his Instagram account page.

This is FAR from the first time Biden has put his shades in the limelight. (See what we did there?)

As far back as 2009, Biden was rocking the Ray-Bans (+ a scarf!)

By 2010, the Ray-Bans had become so closely associated with Biden that President Obama was mentioning them at campaign rallies. "Plus, Joe looks cool in those glasses, too, doesn't he?," Obama said in Philadelphia.

Biden talking about his Ray-Bans in 2016:

https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/299379-biden-stumps-for-ray-ban-sponsorship

Vice President Biden says he has so many pairs of aviator sunglasses that Ray-Ban should consider signing him as a spokesman.

“My lord, I’ve been wearing aviators since I was a freshman in college as a lifeguard,” Biden says, when asked in a Wednesday interview with The Skimm about how many pairs of shades he owns.

“I think Ray-Ban should [sponsor me], I tell you what,” Biden, 73, said of the glasses manufacturer.

“I probably end up with four or five pairs a year because I put them down,” Biden — who sports the dark lenses so much they’ve become his signature look — tells the site.

“Sometimes people steal them for souvenirs,” Biden adds.

Scarborough is exactly correct. You don't have to say 1000 things when 1-3 will do. I've watched asinine overly complicated Democratic commercials all my life. Many of the slogans have the same fault.

Spend time with any swing voter. They want something simple to remember and repeat to friends, not policy wonk crap.

I agree with some of the comments that were talking about it's refreshing to see something positive about Biden rather than just ripping Trump all the time. I believe I read an article today that mentioned that the Biden campaign were realizing that they should attack less and contrast more and this certainly does that.

there's such a treasure trove on trump.. that people don't know or isn't widely reported. Like this ad ... Everyone knows he's a better person and a more dignified president.

How about something no one talks about... " Do you really want THIS man who played favorites with vents and PPE depending on what state you live in in charge of a vaccine that could save your loved ones life?"

Or, trump has reversed countless regulations. He reversed an Obama reg that stopped coal companies from dumping sludge with proven cancer causing materials into our water.
That should affect all people. And it would catch trump flat footed. How could he possibly explain?

are very weak and ineffective.

I just watched one that came up on a Youtube video I wanted to see. I had the option to skip it a few seconds in, but I let it play because I was amazed at how terrible it was and wanted to see it all.

This was the one where Trump is talking to Hannity about Biden not being mentally fit. The crux of the ad is that Biden has said a word and meant a different one, something everyone does daily. The biggest problem outside of it being an ad trying to make a big deal over nothing was that Trump wasn't able to actually put together a complete and coherent sentence during any of it. He looked like he was a blabbering idiot (which he is). The next terrible thing was that it looked like an ad that a high schooler might put together when running for student body president. There was no effective editing and it has this ugly banner with his text to message.

I would be embarrassed to put that ad out there when Biden is dropping ads like the one above on a daily basis. Trump is outmatched because Biden has clearly put together a highly effective campaign team with some serious ability to get their message out and hammer it home. Trump on the other hand is flailing to find some attack that will actually land against Joe. Clinton was an easy target for him because the right had spent 30 years with singular focus on attacking the Clinton's and plenty of people were already primed to hate her. However, Joe has been a popular guy, even among centrists and many conservatives for decades. He's certainly never been the focus of any ire from anyone. People just aren't going to buy the things that Trump is trying to do with Biden. This is why the Ukraine stuff had absolutely no effect.

Against Clinton, every punch Trump threw landed......against Biden, he's hitting nothing but air and he's already winded.

doubt about Hillary. As you say, "primed.". Hell, even I thought "too much baggage" sometime and had to snap out of it and remember it was all manufactured. He tried to do it with Ukraine.. lucky we had that whistleblower.

Another factor is that Clinton played by the old rules and traditions of political discourse. Trump has no rules. You have to adapt. Sure do hope Bloomberg is assisting with that team he put together that included a narcissism expert.
