(16,888 posts)Think of Pennsylvania as the letter "T" - the "Trumpsters" are heavy in the "T" part of the state, all through the middle and across the top. The areas on the lower left (Pittsburgh area strong, but counties south of Pittsburgh still VERY red) and lower right (Philadelphia area) are heavy blue.
If the Dems can get ANY of the "T" back we should be able to carry the state for Joe!

(16,888 posts)and start the climb up into the Allegheny Mountains. Many thoughts and discussions have been had as to whether those "mountains" should have been used as a border in grouping the areas into states - based on different ideas, life-styles, and needs of those on each side of them.

(4,726 posts)Left right before the Great Recession. Absolutely beautiful country, but the people were...people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know..
I'm not surprised after the bottom fell out of what was left of their economy (the railroad being almost entirely gone long before), it turned into an absolute blood-red Trump outpost.

(16,888 posts)There's a Penn State branch there and the railroad has issues based on what's happening with the economy, especially the tariffs that BunkerBoy put into place. They just may be fed up with the "promises" and looking for something else.
Here's hoping!

(4,726 posts)I still know a some people out there. A couple were and still are diehard Trumpers, the rest didn't vote either way in 2016 and only a handful will vote Biden this time.
PSU Altoona isn't very large at all, I can't imagine it's a major liberal influence unlike up in State College. I'm honestly not sure what's going on with the railroad shops; there were plenty of old-timers complaining that they weren't like they used to be, in the heyday of the PRR - I'm not sure if they'd attribute any further worsening to Trump or just write it off as "it ain't what it used to be." They did have a pretty nihilistic attitude...
