You can choose to not use it because it seems too much like a flag, and that'd be fine. But it's not a flag.

It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

Anyone who literally means that, and doesn't actually mean the values for which the flag allegedly stands, is plain and simple a fool.
Rallying around an actual piece of cloth is a demented sort of patriotism.
