There are plenty of states whose filing deadlines are weeks/months away. He certainly will struggle to win the EV but it's clear, if he really is going to run, it's not to win. It's to take votes away from Biden to help Trump. Plenty of states where he can get on the ballot to do that - states like Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New Hampshire come to mind.

Then his mom died, and it all went to hell, and now he’s an idiot. I assume there’s more to the story, but I don’t care enough about it to look it up.

I am not sure if it's serious or just him being Kanye. But if he gets ballot access, which he still can, in Wisconsin, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, it'll likely throw the election to Trump. I doubt there's a lot of Trump supporters who'd vote for Kanye over Trump. But there may be just enough 'hold your nose' Biden supporters to do it to hurt him in those states.

1. Even if he can't get on the ballot, he won't necessarily disclose that fact, and run as if he were.
2. The "Plan" is to siphon votes away from Joe Biden, likely African-American and Latino voters, young.
3. When the Kanye voters get to the polls, and find out that they can't vote for him, they leave dejected, and won't vote for Joe Biden as a contingent candidate. Now, mind you, they were likely were GOING TO vote for Biden, but the Kanye factor changed everything.
