I am thankful one of my neighbors called the cops.

I admit that I was considering it. Fireworks are prohibited in the city I live in but that doesn’t seem to stop people. It was really getting unbearable and my little dog was having a breakdown. Then two police cruisers showed up at two houses on my street and shut it down.

I don’t get it. Don’t people realize how disturbing all the booming is to others and especially to animals?

And if they do they don’t care because ‘murica and freedumb. I fucking hate the 4th of July. My dogs are a mess and I’ve had a little parrot sheltering in my shirt for hours. He’s probably sleeping with me which means I won’t sleep. I’m glad you called the cops.

Though, I was about to. It really was getting unbearable.

I hope your dogs and parrot have calmed down.

So my oldest son took her camping with him and his boyfriend tonight, so that's good. My oldest doggo was born deaf and is mercifully oblivious to the fireworks. My kitty, however, is ON TOP OF ME, poor thing. She usually goes into my bedroom closet when she's freaked out but not tonight. It's just horrible out there. I closed up the house and turned on my a/c for white noise, but we can still hear it. I've lived in this town for over twenty years and it's never been this bad. I feel so bad for all the animals and PTSD sufferers.

They're selfish. I don't mind some fireworks on the 4th. I expect it. This year has been completely out of control. My husband said he could see sparks bouncing on the roofs of the houses across the street. We had several hours of near nonstop noise. It's only quieted down, but not stopped, in the last 20 minutes.

My dogs are drugged up so tgey are asleep but haven't been out to potty since about 4.

I am ready to just shoot the guy. He did the same thing last night.

How is sitting there throwing a lighted firework off for 6 hours fun?

Off topic I know BUT ...

This idiot living on the next street over has a generator that is SO LOUD it SHAKES the foundation of the entire house!

Five days! Five days! I damn near cracked and as for this, it WILL be OVER with soon (hopefully!).

That is the only positive thing I can think to write at the moment.

Comparing gross fireworks to a made in China generator running 24/7 for 5 days non-stop!

We Will Survive (I hope!).

Before I joined DU I had no idea that fireworks bothered people. Granted, DU is the only social media thingy I’ve ever been in besides a saltwater fishing one.

I’ve shot them off my whole life starting as a kid and they don’t bother me.

But since reading these posts since joining DU I’ve not shot them off unless on vacation in a remote area.

i had a couple jack ass neighbors (one across the street & the other next door) and they would gather in the street and shoot these fucking things off. we all had dogs. my dog would tremble and quake for HOURS, their dogs would shit all over their houses. a neighbor who lived on the other side of me had two cats that would throw up from the bangs and booms.

we were all friends. but on and around fourth of july (and on new year's eve) they'd go out in the street like two idiot teenagers that didn't give a rats ass about their pets, or the wildlife in the neighborhood.

i'm sure there are animals that become sickened and terrified from those fireworks in the remote area where you go.

left me with cuts, stitches, and a serious wake up moment because I could have hurt others.

With that said, gunz, hatred, anti-masking,, etc., are a lot worse than two nights a year of fireworks.

I’ve held my cat all night long. If fireworks were the worst we had to deal with, I’d be happy. Unfortunately, the same people who enjoy the fireworks, are often the Deplorables described above.

They started around noon here and are still going strong. Illegal in Illinois, of course, but people from here go to Indiana and Wisconsin to buy them.

see them growing up. I would have to climb out of my bedroom window and stand on the edge of the roof to see what amounted to a couple of sparklers far off on the horizon. Since my birthday is July 3rd I always thought it was like a party for me too.

One of my family's dogs was nervous if she heard them but my baby that just died didn't mind at all (she didn't care about thunder or vacuum cleaners either). I miss her!

I canceled my birthday celebration yesterday...I'm too depressed to put on a fake happy face. I don't mind that the fireworks were canceled since I wouldn't have gone anyway. I always took my dog and she slept on my lap through the whole thing. I miss her.

My town cancelled the “official” fireworks. So the idiots had to make up for it of course. Luckily it doesn’t seem to bother my cats, and my granddog (a lab) doesn’t care either. She loves her people but I think the only thing she really cares about is food.
