Crossover support is Gone, finished , Kapput!
Our new Maine poll has troubling results for Susan Collins. She has a 36/55 approval rating and trails Sara Gideon 47-43:
Collins' long held crossover support is just gone after voting against impeachment. Last spring she had a 32% approval rating with Clinton voters. Now it's 8/87.
By doing impeachment, Speaker Pelosi may have handed Democrats the Senate next year:
Mainers are pro choice by a 59/33 spread. Brett Kavanaugh's abortion vote last week after Collins voted for him and promised that he would leave it alone probably isn't helping her either:
Maine was one of the closest states in the country in 2016, with Hillary Clinton winning it by just 3 points. Now Donald Trump has a 41/55 approval rating and trails Joe Biden by double digits at 53-42:

(7,554 posts)I always thought it was funny that we are expected to use a sarcasm emoji, which kind of takes the air out of it. Some don't get it so there is the sarcasm thingy; maybe highlighting "concern" would have helped some get it cuz that's what we make fun of her for. It's just one of those quirks on DU. Welcome!

(21,721 posts)But I remember the point being made here that we had to impeach to, if nothing else, make the Rethugs go on record as accepting drumpf over justice, so we could win the Senate on those grounds.
This poll seems to indicate that Pelosi is getting exactly what she wanted. She is the master!

(7,876 posts)was considered something of a hero when she "saved" Obamacare...she even received a round of applause from her constituents when she walked thru the airport in her home state...she followed that up with a yes vote for Beer Brett and a no vote for impeachment..and Collins went from everyone's "It Girl" to a hate-her-guts nosedive in the polls...obviously she never got the the "how not to commit political suicide" memo

(14,595 posts)fact is she probably would have been in worse shape for a lunatic right winger to primary and beat her already if she broke ranks no either Kavanaugh or impeachment.
HOPEFULLY this holds up and she is gone, but she gave herself a fighting chance.

(38,458 posts)vote against impeachment by McConnell, and she has that.
..It won't matter. Nothing Collins can say or do will take back that vote against impeachment. I wonder what Collins will do as..."A has been"....And Collins will lose by a whole lot, and not a little.

(8,963 posts)This is too close, almost within the margin of error to be a tie.
So close, that it can be stolen quite easily.
I would think this race would have been more like the Biden numbers.
I wouldn't call this "Real Trouble" with 4 months left to campaign.
We really need to work hard to push Sara over the top.

Bye Susan! Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out!
