(7,947 posts)It's going to be difficult to help kids get back to school. But the real problem is that we adults are refusing (well, Trump and his minions and your general rebellious idiots out there, not us particularly) to diminish the exposure in the rest of life outside of school.
If children and their teachers and staff and parents could be less exposed to the virus when they leave the school, school WHICH IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOING TO A BAR would be lesser risk because fewer people would be bringing the virus into the school building.
In my town, the mayor has just mandated masks inside buildings and whenever social distancing isn't feasible. We'll see how it goes. But this is an urban area and most of us are used to regulations like "Walk/Don't walk" traffic lights and "no right turn on red" and "pedestrians have the right-of-way". So far, mostly I see people in the stores wearing masks... but you can't eat and drink wearing a mask, and you can't socially isolate in a bar or restaurant. I think those are where the danger is going to be.

At their school, they don't take all of the kids with special learning plans (aka barking and other developmental or behavioral problems) and separate them from the rest of the kids. They spread them throughout the classes evenly, so each class will have some of these kids who have problems wearing their masks.

Once he is back with his friends, it is certain he would turn into one of the kids in the cartoon.

The socialization aspects of school are crucial to childhood development, but until we get some real leadership in this country, sending kids to school under the current regimen is a death sentence for some of them.

We're talking real life where students continue their workbook when teachers step into the hall, not movie scenes where students swing from the ceiling fluorescents for 30 seconds and then freeze in their seats as the teacher returns.
Seriously. There are real reasons why indoor classes should not resume, but inability to have normal children at least third grade on up keep masks on for a half day or so is not one of the big ones. Special needs kids could be special cases.

(964 posts)compliance will be a direct reflection of their parents beliefs of the Trump. Its not going to work. The Trumpian spawn will ruin any chance of a successful outcome - acting just like their parents.
