Given the impending new shortage of PPEs, they would be justified in doing so, I believe.

The head of the Fairfax, Virginia school district says his school space is roughly equal to that of the Pentagon. He said on CNN that he would need 5 additional Pentagons to follow the suggested social distancing guidelines.

But they are always looking for opportunities to do that, so it isn't a good reason to hold back, I guess.

(3,761 posts)An organized nation-wise teacher resistance general strike is needed to show the nation the central and vast importance of teachers in the economy.
Teachers need to feel the empowerment of being the new vanguard of a resurgent labor-movement. A movement across multiple sectors, whose existence supports the entire economic structure above.
I suggest teachers (K through 12) hold out for their demand to be paid as well as teenage babysitters.
Teachers' economic value as babysitters is immense. The teaching could be thrown in free.
Let us see! Prevailing hourly baby sitter wage x number of students in a class x daily hours x the number of school days.
What do babysitters get? I have no idea so I Googled the question, :
"The average hourly rate for a babysitter is $16.75 for one child and $19.26 for two kids, according to the 2019 annual study compiled by UrbanSitter."
Class of 30/2 = 15 x $19.26 = $288.90 x 6 hour day x 180 school days (again Google) = $312,000 a year.
Lets try minimum federal wage of $7.25 (per kid); the math says, $234,900
There is no hedge-fund manager truly worth that much to the US economy.
