They want Republican voters to believe that the racism, the hatred, the division, the outright insanity, is just another mainstream political position. It is not. It is a sickness. It is harmful and dangerous to us all, just as much, or moreso, than the coronavirus infecting our land.
When they are silent about the racism and hatred that comes from the mouth of Donald Trump, they are complicit. They also, are hateful racists. They cannot continue to pretend that they are somehow different from the views of their Leader. They are the same.
They are well beyond the point of being ashamed or embarrassed by the words and actions of Donald Trump. They have betrayed the ideals of democracy and our country. They have betrayed themselves.
Is it divisive to inform the people that they are not "normal"? Nothing about them is "normal". They have self-exiled from our society.

(3,505 posts)Make it so states can't accept multiples of federal monies than they pay in. Let them fund their low-tax, no regulation dream states with their own money and quit making the rest of us have to raise local taxes to make up for misdirected state and federal tax receipts. Walk the walk or shut up.

(58,785 posts)attitudes and behaviors toward all people they decide for some reason are a problem. Persecuting targets to satisfy their base is a standard fascistic tactic, but only one among many Repub leaders have adopted. Those are repelling half of the right, and of course most of the left, but they could still win.
Through a combination of election theft by enemies foreign and domestic, of keeping their residual base worked up with racist and other fearmongering -- and of many more rational conservative voters thinking they've created economic success and also believing it's extremely important to rescue America by restoring the courts and governments to what they believe they should be, i.e., "liberal extremism" purged.
That last is huge. Until the virus, large numbers of conservatives who should be allying with us against RW extremism were mostly pretty satisfied with what they imagined they'd achieved. They still see us as a huge problem, though. They want to achieve more and most are still dangerously unwilling to see what they're really empowering.
