Just like there's a line in Sleepless in Seattle where Annie is told "you want to be in love in a movie", I want to live in a country where the government is like The West Wing, in a script written by Lawrence O'Donnell.
I want a government of smart, caring people, who see government as a means to improve lives for as many citizens as possible.
I don't understand why that ideal is so demeaned and dismissed by so many people in this country.

(32,185 posts)That those that dismiss and demean this sensible scenario you pose will either say Government is the problem. (decades of Reagan brainwashing)
or
Call what you describe the nanny state where the government takes care of you from cradle to grave ...after all, this country was founded on the principle of rugged individualism and every man for himself.
Now, the occurrence of Covid-19 blasts these two deluded beliefs right out of the water, doesnt it? How will we survive if our government, does not provide for or consider the common good? (A phrase most right wingers loathe because its puts everyone on an even level and it insinuates that lazy poor people and minorities will get taken care of on the taxpayers dime)
Yet they still ignore reality and pretend everything will be okay if we do nothing.
