(10,793 posts)I didn't know this -- I don't live in No.Va. now -- but the school board changed the name to Justice High School in 2018, despite the fact that the majority of residents wanted to keep Stuart.
(I was Edison Class of '67 and Stuart was our arch enemy.)

(54,515 posts)I think I only actually set foot in the place once.
When the radical right ran Virginia, things were a LOT different. It is only fitting that a new demographic gets to rename things to the liking of the living, and to remember those who are heroes to the ones most likely to travel those highways, go to those schools, and fly out of those airports.
Renaming Washington National Airport after Ronald Reagan, a man who hated Washington, was one of the most perverse, cynical acts ever committed by a Republican Congress. I don't fault Bill Clinton for not vetoing it, it would have looked like petty revenge in the midst of the impeachment, and he understandably didn't want to make things worse for such a matter. But the residents of northern Virginia and Washington D.C. overwhelmingly disliked Reagan, and are insulted every time they have to pass that stupid statue of him at the entrance to the airport. Other than maybe Richard Viguerie and Mitch McTurtle, Reagan isn't much of a hero to anyone in DC these days. It is past time to rename the airport to Washington National Airport--the name it bore when FDR opened it. The name of Washington isn't "patriotic" enough for the Republicans?

(62,483 posts)Something in line with Lewis's life. "Moral Leaders" sounds a bit stuffy.
I'd say "Patriots" sounds good.

(54,515 posts)And make DCA Washington National Airport again. Enough of this Reagan National Airport crap. Reagan hated Washington (the city). Washington himself risked all he had to be alive to see the new country born. Who's the hero here? Who deserves a statue at the entrance to the airport, the general or the actor?
