A highly anticipated forthcoming report from U.S. Attorney John Durham on the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation wont trigger a Justice Department policy against interference in the 2020 presidential race, so the review could be released in the weeks leading up to the November election, Attorney General William Barr indicated to Congress Tuesday.
I will be very careful. I know what Justice Department policy is, Barr said during a long-awaited appearance before the House Judiciary Committee. Any report will be, in my judgment, not one that is covered by the policy and would disrupt the election.
When asked directly by Rep. Debbie Murcasel-Powell (D-Fla.) whether he would commit to not releasing a report from Durham between now and November, the attorney general flatly declined.
No, Barr replied.

(15,401 posts)they just need our media stenographers to treat this bullshit report like it's fucking relevant.
The stenographers could just say "meh, it's a big nothing burger", or they can portray it as a "game changer!".
That's the problem.
The stenographers could turn this into a new "Butter Emails", although "But his Durham" doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well.
They don't need there to be any "there, there". They just need the stenographers to pretend that there is.

(53,978 posts)We're smart enough this time after Comey and his October Surprise in 2016 to be ready with our own October Surprise.
And really whatever dirty trick they come up with, it's not going outweigh the 250,000 plus deaths there will be by Nov.

and when Donnie wins in a stunning come from behind squeaker*, barr will say it didn't "disrupt the election" because donnie was always going to win anyway.
*note for those who can't detect sarcasm or contingent events or who think the future tense must be reserved exclusively for hard predictions only and can never be used ironically, I'm not actually predicting Donnie will win. It's just there to set up what I think Barr's plans are.

(24,460 posts)That was commissioned by Barr over the Inspector Generals failure to find anything wrong with the Trump/Russia investigation as handled by the Obama/Biden WH?
I guess they figured since Comey came out with his announcement and it helped Trump that they can pull the same trick? Except it wont because it will be so obviously and nakedly partisan that people wont take notice. I dont get what got people so worked up about the whole e-mails thing though but Im going to guess that a lot of people were already pre-disposed to think of anything Hillary as being shady, a problem that Biden doesnt seem to have.

(4,644 posts)Comeys letter to Congress announcing that the FBI was reopening the HRC email investigation was October 28:
https://www.rollcall.com/2017/05/09/timeline-comeys-journey-from-clinton-investigation-to-unemployment/
By November 1, Trump led HRC 46 to 45 in an ABC News poll:

It was enough to allow the Republicans to steal the election. The Comey letter made it plausible. Yes, a couple of days before the election Comey said o, no, we were just kiddin around, there was nothing there. But at that point the damage was done. It worked. Stay tuned...
Expect the Republicans to try again to shape and control the narrative days before the election. I do think were wiser, but it will make it a very close election.
(Will DU again be hacked and down for a couple of crucial weeks? Very likely.)

2016 Dotard was an unknown. He is now known for his lying, stealing, misogyny, lawlessness..I could go on
Why I will never know, but HRC was not a well liked candidate. Biden is not facing the head winds she was
America is exhausted, covid, armed protesters in cities, loss of standing on the world stage
Loss of health care
Even republicans have fled and are going to vote for Biden
The above are facts...not just opinion

(4,644 posts)On Biden, and the state of the nation, you are right. But I fear there still are large numbers of low-information voters that can be swayed by BS such as Comey-2016 and Barr-2020. Ive got my fingers crossed that it will be otherwise. We have work to do.
(Im just not terribly confident after 2016. Rs make me nervous for their anti-democratic underhandness.)
