(58,785 posts)Since it was announced on a call with Democrats, perhaps it will only apply to them? Noting that she is speaker of The House, not of only the Democratic caucus.

(18,486 posts)House rules. For example, they can't come onto the floor without ties, wearing hats, etc.

(12,286 posts)So this rule can be enforced rather simply.

(18,486 posts)It might be harder to deal with people who take their masks off once they're on the floor. But the Speaker or presiding officer can caution the Member, just as they do whenever a Member violates the rules, and then, if they don't comply, ask the SAA to escort them out. Unless the Member wants to make a big scene and look like a fool, they will probably just leve.

(58,785 posts)the high security meeting room Republicans "stormed" with cameras rolling? Lying that they were being excluded from a secret meeting? Those who were supposed to be at work in that meeting instead of joining those running down the stairs to augment the show must have gotten a good chuckle out of it. The Republicans have become lawless rule-smashers and gleefully so.
My guess is that Pelosi may have reached agreement with Kevin McCarthy, the Republican minority leader, on this rule before announcing. He probably doesn't want his caucus to start dropping like embarrassing flies, could eventually be unable to muster a caucus.
I hope so. Don't care to see 200 "freedom fighters" putting on a phony show of demonstrating against oppression in the Capitol Building.
