I'm the proud husband of a teacher. I've seen firsthand how difficult the job can be in normal times let alone in the middle of a pandemic. So when I heard Beth's story, I knew @BarackObama and I had to give her a call.

(38,353 posts)My wife and I were teachers when we met. My wife's sister is a high school teacher.
Three of my nieces are teachers.
If this nation doesn't support public schools and teachers, especially during these difficult times of pandemic, this nation will fail.
Our local schools will not be opening this fall, which is as it should be. My wife's sister is putting together a mini television studio in her home so she can make her online teaching more like a classroom and less like a zoom meeting.
The transition to online learning here wasn't as difficult as it could have been because all the students get Chromebooks if they don't have or are don't want to use their own computers. The larger problem was the number of students who don't have internet access in their homes, and the number of parents who, for various reasons, are unable to engage their children in online education.
This pandemic is a catastrophe for children who have dysfunctional parents and guardians. Some of these children can't even get to school to pick up their free breakfasts and lunches.

(2,238 posts)Ive been reading about some districts around the country that have implemented using their school busses to deliver meals to the kids that cant make it to the schools to pick up meals. They deliver to the kids bus stops. I think these folks are angels. Wonder if maybe your district could do something similar? Ive no idea of the ins and outs but its a great idea!!
