AZ-06: DCCC Statement on Schweikert Admitting to Eleven House Ethics Violations
Today, House Ethics Committee released their report on their years-long investigation of Rep. David Schweikerts campaign finance violations. The committee unanimously found that Congressman David Schweikert violated House rules, the Code of Ethics for Government Service, and federal laws. Schweikert admitted to 11 rules violations and will pay a $50,000 fine.
In their release the committee specifically called out Schweikert for: campaign finance violations and reporting errors by his authorized campaign committees; the misuse of his Members Representational Allowance for unofficial purposes; pressuring official staff to perform campaign work; and his lack of candor and due diligence during the investigation.
Congressman Schweikerts blatant corruption, self-enrichment, and total disregard for the law reveal a man without remorse, who is willing to betray his constituents and American taxpayers for his own gain. The $50,000 fine is a clear indictment of Schweikerts illegal behavior and as such he has no place on any House committee, let alone the Ways and Means Committee. He must be stripped of all committee assignments immediately.
The House Ethics Committees unanimous findings and the fine imposed on Schweikert are a black mark that will stay on his record until Arizonans summarily kick him out of office in November and instead elect the responsible and transparent Dr. Hiral Tipirneni.
