Stimulus talks break down on Capitol Hill as negotiators walk away without a deal

Washington (CNN) - Negotiations over the next stimulus package intended to bolster the economy and help struggling Americans pay their bills have stalled on Capitol Hill with Democrats and Trump administration officials walking away after talks broke down on Friday and devolved into partisan finger-pointing.

No additional discussions are planned after nearly two weeks of daily meetings, and lead White House negotiators Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin say they are recommending President Donald Trump move ahead with a series of executive orders aimed at extending the federal moratorium on evictions, continuing federal unemployment benefits and suspending the payroll tax.

"We will recommend to the President based upon our lack of activity today to move forward with some executive orders," Mnuchin said Friday.

The executive orders are expected to meet fierce resistance from Democrats who plan to challenge them in court. Democrats warn that executive action taken will be insufficient to address the extent of the economic and public health crisis faced by Americans during the pandemic.

Democrats were finally in on some of these meetings just this week after the White House and congressional Republicans dicked around and ran out the clock last week. And now Trump is going to just wave his magic executive order pen and save the country? Yeah, right. I'm sure there will be hordes of scandalized Republicans running in front of every available camera to decry such high-handed unconstitutional activity. Yeah, right.

Republicans stalled for two months, forced yet another manufactured crisis, then refused to bargain in good faith. The bodies are piling up across the nation, and Republicans couldn't care less. Their paychecks are still being directly deposited on the regular.

for putting the country through this misery. Just goes to show any of them claiming to be Christian is a big, fat liar because it's obvious none of them believe in hell either.
