Toxic Chemicals May Be Used In Big Mac Containers, Study Says

A report newly released by a pair of environmental advocacy groups reveals that toxic chemicals may be present in some of the containers and wrappers used by three major fast-food chains.

According to the study, the packaging for the two most iconic burgers in fast food—the Big Mac from McDonald's and the Whopper from Burger King—both tested above the screening level for fluorine.

The same was true for the chicken nugget bag from Burger King and the small French fry bag from McDonald's. Wendy's cookie bags also tested above the screening level, as did the competitor versions at both Burger King and McDonald's.

"Exposure to PFAS is an especially high concern in the context of COVID-19, since they are linked to suppression of the immune system, as well as chronic conditions that increase the severity of COVID-19," the authors of the study wrote.

Both when I was a young man (I'm old now so they did not kill me). I ate the Mac and later in the evening I was violently sick to my stomach.
Cured me of MacDonald's cravings.

That's a treat me and my hubby share once in awhile. It is worth going to Arby's just for that.

PFAS is used as a coating to prevent moisture or grease from soaking into paper.
Why wouldn't they use a simple wax coating?
They went out of their way to use something more toxic, when they could just have used wax?
That's really stupid.
Going for more technology when it's not better technology. Dumb!

I don't understand the point of using something to replace wax, when it's potentially orders of magnitude more health averse.
Waxes are just large chain alkanes. No attackable sites, resistant to breakdown by stomach acids and enzymes, essentially tasteless, and cheap.
PFAS might he slightly more effective on oils, but not enough to even consider the additional health risks!
Like I said, just stupid!
BTW: when school was still in session I was working a school near a BK. I went there a few times for lunch & got the Impossible Burger. No meat! I really liked it. Tasted just like a normal Whopper, to me. A bit fewer calories, too.

Contrary to the clever assertion by a couple of folks, some do eat the containers.
