(10,130 posts)he has to resign or he'll be impeached.
I'm not sure that type of Republican exists in Washington or exists in the numbers needed.

(7,637 posts)that there are enough votes in the senate to convict him.
TwilightZone
(25,476 posts)Graham said that they don't have the votes to just dismiss the trial. That's not the same as votes to convict. I've seen nothing indicating what you're asserting.

Trump has/had a checkmark. So did Alex Jones before he was banned.

(87 posts)...I can't remember the movie but, the guy was apprehended and put on a helicopter and the crew interrogated him and said that they were hovering very high (I have 450 hours as a passenger or observer in a helicopter but never above 5000 feet). They opened the door and threatened to toss him out if he didn't divulge information. The guy spilled his guts but they tossed him anyway. They were hovering 3 feet above the ground.
I can see a 'Catch 22" like movie where the orange butt wipe was given this treatment. Make him beg for his freedom and mercy from the courts.

(16,448 posts)I know the legality of that is in question but it seems halfway plausible at this stage. This could be an interesting 72 hours. I have no idea what will happen.

(25,476 posts)The only reason to resign would be if he thinks he can't self-pardon and will need Pence to do so. I wouldn't count on Pence, if I were Trump. I think the rift is permanent, with good reason.

(969 posts)He needs Pence at this point ... i think at this point for the safety of the nation they are will to give him a pardon if he resigns
TwilightZone
(25,476 posts)The safety of the nation isn't affected one way or another. Give him a pardon and he'll think it's a blank check to do whatever he wants. If he can't/won't face prosecution or consequences, you think that makes us more safe?
Nah. The only way to stop Trump is to make him face consequences. Preferably locked away in an institution of one kind or another.

(16,448 posts)It would allow him to escape being the first president to have been impeached twice. The question isnt if there is a reason, its whether or not he cares about carrying that stink. Nobody here has the answer to that question.
TwilightZone
(25,476 posts)His incitement of the riot will be much more important historically than a second impeachment. No one will care that it's two - they'll care about the event that was underlying it.
I find it a bit remarkable how much emphasis people place on failed impeachments. If he's acquitted again, you really think he'd react any differently than he did the first time? He held a victory tour, as I recall, and proclaimed himself completely exonerated. Then felt free to do anything he wanted.
You think #2 is going to change that? Nope.
