(24,723 posts)I expect great things from MVP Harris.

(92,488 posts)reelection, he has my vote. If he doesnt, then the Democratic nominee will get my vote
No need to over think this

Because no one asked this question about Obama in 2009, Trump in 2017, etc.

(81,890 posts)I think Biden is only serving one term. Apparently, so do many others.

(5,155 posts)In the mean time, let's not saddle him as a lame duck prior to his swearing in.

Bettie
(16,139 posts)so, we can't know at this point.
He may choose to run again, he may not.
We. Don't. Know. Not for certain.
Big Blue Marble
(5,155 posts)I think the question is inappropriate prior to his even being inaugurated. Let's allow to
him to deal with all the major challenges he will take on. And we will see where he is ( and
where our country is) in two years when the 2024 race begins.
To think otherwise leaves him a lame duck before he is sworn in.
Renew Deal
(81,890 posts)Because almost everyone assumes it. But power is power, and Democrats currently have power to make some real moves.
Big Blue Marble
(5,155 posts)I am not sure that every one is assuming it. What is he is very popular in two to three years
and still in good health? Let's stay in our now and enjoy the coming recovery while wishing
the Biden/Harris awesome success in restoring our democracy.

(11,258 posts)I think we just need to see what happens. If he guides us through the end of the pandemic, rights the economy, makes good progress on climate change, and starts to rebuild the federal government, I could see him handing things off to Kamala and enjoying his time with his family. If there's more to be done, then he'll probably choose to run for re-election.
Let's just enjoy tomorrow and see how things go the next couple of years as I'm guessing that even Biden can't answer this question yet.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)look at his future. My guess is he will tee it up for Harris in 2024, because he sees a lot of potential in her.
Doreen
(11,686 posts)I think he is grooming Harris for 2024. We can have her for 8 years after Biden.
He knows he is getting old and his age bothers some people but that he is the best to jump start our healing process.

(11,686 posts)Well, I am glad I am wrong. I would be happy with Biden for 8 and then Harris for another 8. OK, yeah, getting ahead to far
highplainsdem
(49,081 posts)The LAST thing we should be doing is echoing all the damn RWers who are predicting Biden will quickly be replaced by Harris -- though many of them are predicting that will happen within months, not in four years.
It could cripple Biden's presidency from the start if even Democrats view him as someone who won't be running again in 2024.
Renew Deal
(81,890 posts)The key for Democrats in 2021-22 is delivering on promises as much as possible. Then they have a better story to tell in 2024, no matter who is running.
highplainsdem
(49,081 posts)any hints that Biden might not serve two terms to try to convince Republicans that he's just a more moderate Trojan horse for a takeover by Harris and other supposedly "socialist" Democrats that Republicans should fear and oppose.
Do NOT devalue the importance of Biden as our candidate and our president.
He won because of who he is. Because of the person people see when they look at him.
Ignoring that will make others think his presidential run was some kind of bait-and-switch, and it was anything but that.
Renew Deal
(81,890 posts)Voters took someone trustworthy over a risk. That happened in both the primary and GE.
Cuthbert Allgood
(5,002 posts)which allows Harris to run for two terms after being President for 2 years. They would be silly to not be at least having a discussion about that.
treestar
(82,383 posts)In fact, they think it will happen Thursday. Somehow they think Pelosi can invoke the 25 th.
Cuthbert Allgood
(5,002 posts)And happening on Thursday is a stupid plan. Then Harris only gets to run once. But they're morons, so...
mvd
(65,180 posts)I am uncertain. If hes in good health and wants to finish what he started, he may run again. If unwilling or unable, Harris is very capable and would make a good President.
TigressDem
(5,125 posts)But if he lets someone else take the helm, it would be understandable.

I edited my title of this post completely because I was thinking the poll was about whether Trump would run again in 2024, not Biden. I guess I read the title of the OP a little too quickly and much too carelessly. Yikes
I originally said "Not a chance. Even most of his own supporters will abandon him long before then." I would never have said something as senseless as that if I had read the OP's title more carefully to begin with. Biden's supporters would never abandon him, obviously.
Thanks to you and Drunken Irishman for catching me on this, or I wouldn't have realized my mistake.

(82,383 posts)Not into thinking about it already. 82 is old but he is in good shape. But Harris running would be great. If things go well I can see that happening. And they will go well.
There hasn't been an elected President who chose not to run for another term since Johnson and that was a really unique situation.
He just won more votes than any candidate in history. He will run again so long as he remains healthy.
