It seems many DUers have either received their 1st vaccine or have been scheduled. Curious

about whether my perception is accurate.

I am not expecting to get the vaccine in MA until this summer. My husband and I are under 65 and we don't have any health issues listed as comorbidities. I was really hoping to have our vaccines before May when my daughter is due with our first grandchild. Instead we will get tested and quarantine for 2 weeks. Just hope her due date is on time!

How about you?

They are holding at 65, with the only health exceptions being individuals who have one of about 20 childhood onset conditions.

Pissed beyond belief that all primary and secondary school employees (even if working entirely from home, even without co-morbidities, have been eligible for weeks.

As places get more supply and if they start to notice a slowdown they will open up to more age groups .

Didn't MA say that those who bring someone eligible for the Vaccine can also get vaccinated even if they are not part of that group yet ? It's to help get more older ander other people who may not be able to travel get out their home as easily.

My husband and I are both under 65 both with underlying conditions. It’s annoying. We were expecting to be in group 2 but Governor Cooper changed the groups and now were in Group 4 (out of 5). I originally thought we’d be eligible in January. Now it looks more like late March or April. I simply cannot wait. Really hoping that supply lines continue to increase and the pace accelerates.

He's 69, I'm 68, and we both have health factors that puts us in more danger if we catch Covid-19. So it was quite a relief for us to get the first shot in and the second scheduled in three weeks.

We only known two people that had Covid or tested positive, so we haven't had much exposure. We were getting work done on the house so all last year we had various people coming and going, sometimes inside. I worried most then but we were too far into the process by the time Covid got really started to stop in the middle.

Good luck to your daughter with her child. And good luck to you and your wife on getting the vaccine - or clearing quarantine.

It wasn't a perfect scenario going through the online portal but once in, the shot process went smoothly and was well run. I'm over 65 so that made me eligible. The night after I got my second dose I was sitting in my recliner and had such a sense of well being come over me. I know it doesn't mean I won't get Covid but at lest the chances are much less and the infection would likely be much less severe. I haven't felt this way in a year.

Have no idea of when we'll get vaccine. Have signed up everywhere available for our area. Michigan seems to have a bit of a problem with distribution. Staying isolated isn't physically difficult for us, but certainly emotionally stressful. But to be honest I'd rather the medical people, teachers, and so called essential workers get theirs first. Which may be why we haven't pushed really hard to get the vaccine. It seems so much more necessary for others. I truly understand those in nursing homes and those with with conditions like diabetes, but for myself I will be happy to get the shots but also happy to have others more in need to get theirs first.

I have no faith in waiting lists after the fiasco I had with my shingles shot. I waited a year...kept asking they said nope because of COVID. I understood that part, finally when I called to schedule my flu shot I asked again about the shot. They said sure you can schedule your appointment anytime. I said, you were suppose to call me and their response was....sorry we were to overwhelmed with requests.

The pharmacy where I signed up is literally 5 minutes from my place of work, so after a week or so I'll start ducking in once a week to see where I stand. Until there is some kind of centralized registry it is chaos having to contact the individual providers all of whom have different policies and such. The pharmacy closest to my home, at the other end of my commute, just has a message up on their website saying "no appointments at this time." So I'm hoping the hole in the wall place that requires you to come in in person may not be overwhelmed.

Wed Feb 24, 2021, 07:40 PM
Feb 2021

in the parking lot of IHS (Indian Health Service) Clinic about 2 miles from my home.

What was different is got a call changing appointment from 10 AM to the 1:15 PM slot and that the Clinic was experimenting with drive through vaccination. Like my 1st shot, people were in 15 minute time slots: meet with doctor, review material, sign a release; get shot; and wait 15 minutes for overt bad reactions and to get covid card obtained at first shot updated. Got another copy of COVID19 Fact Sheet plus material on reactions plus diet supplements and treatment should get various after effects and when to call 911 / go to ER.

Very straightforward and professional. Others in Humboldt county have struggled obtaining vaccines but IHS is federally distributed and not through county and state. I am fortunate to be in IHS service territory and the Clinic is my primary provider.

BTW not NA but multigenerational local, age 68, have been through chemo and cancer surgeries (not locally) beginning in 2018.

I became eligible to receive the vaccine last January, and immediately called my health care provider to schedule an appointment to receive the first dose of the vaccine. I was given a date of February 13, 2021. On Wednesday, February 10, I was informed that my appointment for the 13th was canceled due to the coming snow storm, and I would be rescheduled for February 20th. On Thursday, February 18, I was informed that the vaccine was unavailable for my appointment on the 20th, and I would be rescheduled for February 28. Just this morning, I was again informed that the vaccine would not be available for my appointment on the 28th, so now I am rescheduled for my first dose of the vaccine March 7th. Sux to be me.

The VA called me up the other day and offered to give me the shot. I wasn’t about to argue with them so I took it.

I read something the other day that 47% of Americans are hesitant to get vaccinated! With that in mind, I bet those of us who want the vaccine will receive it much sooner than projected.

Since I am her caregiver, making sure she gets her vitamins, eats her food, doesn't wear her clothes inside out, take her and sit in with her doctors, shop for her, etc, they begrudgingly counted me as eligible even though I'm the one taking the risk of getting COVID-19.

If you are a caregiver of someone elderly and at risk, make it sound like you're a saint so they'll approve your vaccination.

March 8th at a health center about 20 minutes away. I finally dumped the County Health Board and went through my State Board of Health that directed me to the nearest providers in our area. Means we'll both be fully vaccinated by early April.

Woo-Hoo!

76. I'm attributing this to nobody on DU, but keep in mind there's lots of gaming the system going on.

The couple next door to me are both early 60s and in great health, yet both got their first shot 3 weeks ago.

Neither volunteered to me how that happened. But I have theories.

She's a counselor, a therapist of some sort, although she counsels from home over the internet. I'm thinking she most likely claimed to be an essential mental health professional.

He's a mostly retired lawyer. My speculation is his pathway to early vaccination was his elderly mother, who lives not far away. He visits her; I couldn't say how often. I think most likely he declared he was her primary care-giver. They have resources, so I'd be shocked if she didn't have an actual assisted living person coming in, but I'm not able say that he isn't her sole help. I just highly doubt it.

A lot of people are pursuing ways around their vaxx prioritization category, and many are going to find ways to do it, exaggerating, fudging, and falsely "affirming" their way closer to the front of the line.

We must of course strive for fairness in vaccine allocation.

But, it's America. Realistically, we must acknowlege we're falling far short in this, too.
