Today, as Joe Biden wins the accolades he rightly deserves,
excuse me for paying tribute to 'The Lady'

(58,785 posts)the pandemic would never have happened, in the U.S. anyway. Probably a half million dead people would be alive, if she was president. If she had been, we would have at least controlled the senate, perhaps had a majority in the house.
And so much more would have been so different, of course. All we're hoping to do now would have been begun then.
Enormous tragedy, continuing. And great danger.

She was Madame President in one at least!
Gives me a bit of a smile, even if not us.

(37,101 posts)Trump spoke the unvarnished truth TWO TIMES during the campaign:
1. He said the election was RIGGED. True.
2. He said if I voted for Hillary, there would be a criminal in the White House.
2 for 2!

(23,224 posts)Just think what a different world we'd have if she and Gore had been allowed to take the offices they truly won.

(32,958 posts)Perhaps John Kerry too, perhaps not. But the tragedy of Hillary losing/not-losing will always be a blot on America's soul.
If Al Gore had fought the election results he would have ended up sounding like Chump in his last months. It's sad to say, but Al Gore did the right thing by backing off when he did.
If only Congress had stepped in and done its job to secure our elections when it had the chance in 2001. Bush really floundered before 9/11 and the Dems in Congress coulda/shoulda made sure that no Repuke would ever steal an election again. We missed our chance and we've been paying ever since.

(15,557 posts)I'm not talking conspiracy nonsense. I mean that I believe that Gore would have better listened to the warnings and intercepted the terrorists before they did their destruction.

(32,958 posts)Emotionally I want to believe that Gore as POTUS really would have made a difference. Sadly we'll never know for sure.

(6,139 posts)as much as I admire her. This is because Biden is more skilled at politics which allows him to push bold agenda without polarization. Hillary didnt fight decades of defamation against her.

(11,611 posts)Biden is skilled and he is also a white male.

(68,917 posts)woman I have ever known but the GOP have destroyed her over the years with their lies.
dlk
(11,611 posts)However, this has nothing to do with her high skill level as a politician - apples and oranges, so any comparison with her political skill vis-a-vis Biden isn't truly fair. He's never had to face that level of opposition. Don't misunderstand, I'm thrilled with his success. I just didn't think the ding to Hillary was called for.

(4,448 posts)Biden has an extremely good record in the Senate.
Lets be honest. Hillarys Senate run was more about resume building for the White house. And thats ok. She served her term and half with almost no scandals.
Biden had 36 years in the Senate. Hillary did 8.
There are lots of men out there. Hardly any do 36 years in the Senate. So I don't think this is about sexism.
JI7
(89,297 posts)If she was born couple decades later she would have gone into public office earlier .
But she worked with senators since she was in her 20s and has had many policy ideas she promoted and was able to work on when she got into office herself.
You act as if she just ran for Senate out of nowhere so she cam be president as if she didn't have years of work she put in otherwise.
fescuerescue
(4,448 posts)but I thought we were talking about time as Senator.

(89,297 posts)my point was that Hillary had experience as much as Biden but just in different areas and different ways.

(25,867 posts)Al Franken on worrying he might not be taken seriously as a senator:
"Hillary had navigated those challenges with notable success, not just earning the respect of her colleagues on both sides of the aisle, but getting a whole lot done for the people of her state. 'Wow,' I thought, 'she should be president someday.' So we sat down with Tamera, who spelled out the 'Hillary Model.' Simply put, it's: Be a workhorse, not a showhorse. Go to all of your hearings. Come early, stay late. Do your homework. Don't do national press. Be accessible to your state media and to your constituents. That sounded smart to me."
If you know anything about Hillary, you know how seriously she has taken the job of getting things done for the American people her entire career.

(153,387 posts)I think Hillary would have been one of the greats. And you don't seem to understand that Hillary did not have the luxury of being able to "fight" without being seen as a vindictive b****.

Obama still had deal with racism, and FL Michelle had to deal with racism and misogyny! Ugh, the things they said about her!

(11,611 posts)She wouldnt have brushed it off, as Trump did, and thousands and thousands of American lives would have been spared.

(59,516 posts)Even not becoming President, his life of service has moved the country against the Vietnam War and on climate change, where life long environmentalist (as Teresa could also be described) Kerry was instrumental on getting the Paris Accord.
He is likely the most underrated leaders of the last half century. Fortunately, President Biden has an extremely high regard for him.

(9,352 posts)The Florida slate was certified, and no objection was raised in the Senate, with Gore himself presiding. End of story.
Autumn
(45,120 posts)it is revamped or done away with. They had no business intervening and stopping the count. "Elected" is very important and relevant. When it comes to presidents if you don't win the election, if you are not elected, you are not president. They were were candidates who lost their election. Al Gore was actually prevented from taking his place as president. That's the end of the story.
