4 high schoolers die, 3 other people injured in crash near Chicago
WHEELING, Ill. (AP) A three-vehicle crash in a Chicago suburb killed four high school students and injured a fifth and two other people, authorities said.
The teenagers killed in Tuesday nights crash in Wheeling were between the ages of 16 and 18 and were traveling in the same car in the suburb northwest of Chicago, police said.
Three other people were transported to hospitals after the 10:20 p.m. crash, which involved three vehicles, one of which struck a light pole, causing a local power outage, Wheeling police said.
Speed and a disregarded traffic signal seem to be the primary factors involved at this time, police said in a statement.

Don't know specifics but it's intended to prevent those under a certain age from driving with other young people because they tend to have high rate of accidents.

(10,479 posts)I was in the back seat. Both me and the front seat passenger were yelling at the driver to slow down or stop. When we got into town and stopped at a sign the passenger dragged the driver out of the car and punched him out. I dont think it cured him because I think he ultimately got in a high speed crash but at least no one was with him. Kids at that age should be limited to something like a VW Bug.

(11,515 posts)as to be almost ho-hum. (And incidentally has been since about - the invention of the wheel? Seriously - there're stories of Amish kids 'recklessly' racing buggies and wagons. Generally without killing multiple individuals - but with absolutely the same mind-set.)
It's tragic certainly. But it's also absolutely predictable.
