General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPlease be advised, Trump supporters ...
... that your feelings, beliefs, emotions, and opinions are no longer of any consequence. The only things that matter from now on are the facts and the law.
If you choose to believe that Trump and his allies are being persecuted simply because they "exercised their free speech" by "questioning" the outcome of the 2020 election, you are free to do so.
If you choose to believe that the 2020 election was rigged, tampered with, stolen - that's your prerogative.
But the fact remains that whatever deranged and baseless beliefs you may hold, they will not play any part in the legal proceedings that Trump and his cohorts are now about to face - and all of the protests, the threats of violence, the screaming and gnashing of teeth on your part won't change that fact.

(35,758 posts)So what would they like? To let trump run rampant with his grifting and attempt to topple a democracy?
It is more trump projection, since this is his sick way of handling the DOJ.

(7,863 posts)we dont care why they support a deranged psychopath or why they vote hate or why denying women the right to choose is bad or transgender children are bad or gays are bad or drag shows are bad or banning books is good or hate for the other is good..we dont give a damn why owning the Libs drives them to vote against their own best interests..
And we dont give a damn why they are too fucking stupid to grasp the horror of January 6 or the depth of corruption and misery Trump perpetuated in our name.. Joe Biden won the 2020 election/Hunter Biden is a private citizen.. their guy is going down.. thoughts and prayers

(206,236 posts)Back in 2016 - though I you're right that it started when he came down that foolish escalator - I finally just stopped watching the news because they kept showing this offensive blowhard instead of those who passed for legitimate candidates. I figured I'd start watching again after the election was over. I sure didn't think that anyone would vote for this offensive joke, shows what I know.
I had dental surgery on election day, voted on my way home with my face still half numb, but my polling place was unusually busy which i took as a good sign, voted for my former senator and fell asleep in front of the TV watching the returns. I woke up at about 3am to see that creep standing there, with his entire extended family - I figured I was probably having a bad dream. And now, eight years later, we all are.

WE have to direct the way they assess whatever.
WE have to direct HOW the message is written and communicated. HOW its imparted to other ears - whose owners may OR MAY NOT be as plugged in on whatever issue as we are.
Its ALWAYS shrewd to write catchy. And quick. As concise as possibly. Easy to remember. If you have too much to explain, youre losing em. Write whats clever and memorable. You want NOT ONLY for your own self to remember it easily, but also whoever you say it to or share it with. And if its easy and clever, itll make your listener feel smart and clever when he/she repeats it to someone else.
And if its catchy and memorable, some writer or reporter is more likely to use it him/herself and there it can spread to wider fields than maybe you-the-originator had access to. And itll make them feel more clever, too. Psychology, dontchaknow.

(81,523 posts)Its CRITICAL that we ALWAYS keep that phrase in mind as far as counter-strategy.
And we ALWAYS - MUST - keep an eye on what kinds of talking points the bad guys are pushing - and be ready IMMEDIATELY to refute and rebut.
One thing Ive learned from years in the news biz, broadcasting biz, a dad who was a very effective salesman, soft power, strategic formulation, manipulation, and messaging of-and-with talking points, is how critically important ALL of that is. Including the delivery systems and their best friend: REPETITION.
Seriously. Just watch TV for an hour and take note of the commercial breaks. The messaging. How its written and presented, and whats being said or written or suggested. And how often the messaging gets repeated. Its VERRRRRRRY subtle manipulation. And boy does it work. BOY does it have an impact! Theyre playing you and owning you and you dont even feel a thing. But suddenly youre unconsciously thinking what they want you to think, and youre wanting what they intend for you to want.
Its soft power. And it goes WAAAAAY farther and deeper than just what laundry detergent or snack food they want you to buy.
And IF YOU REALIZE THAT, GOING IN, youre one up on them already. And youre less likely to be HAD.

(81,523 posts)There are focus groups and studies of this stuff, how people process information and ingest it. And how youre gently guided toward THEIR point of view and THEIR objective.
For example, I know enough about the reality behind the nice-sounding messaging and imaging of the Republicans - all Mom and Apple pie and America, over and over and over, using the flag a lot (notice how it pops up in print ads).
Just BE AWARE. ALWAYS BE AWARE. Notice how repetitive trump is, with his salesmanship. Hes like an army of tanks firing out candy and really tasty marshmallows at you CONSTANTLY and REPETITIVELY. Hes a master manipulator. Hell spend a few minutes alternately sweet-talking you and scaring you and dominating you, and when hes finished and leaves, only then does it start fawning on you that youre now locked out of your house and youre stark naked.

(81,523 posts)And sure enough, theres our friend: REPETITION!
Heres the advice DeSantis is getting for the upcoming GOP candidates debate:
- Attack Joe Biden and the media 3-5 times.
- State his positive vision 2-3 times.
and
- Hammer Ramaswamy in a response.
And AFTER all that, THEN comes
- Defend trump in absentia. In response to a Christie attack.
Notice what came first and second: actually COUNTING the actual number of times to REPEAT THE MESSAGING. Theyre smacking DeSantis right in the face with this advice. DO THIS 3-5 TIMES!
Watch for how this strategy plays out. The word choices. The feelings and emotions theyre hoping to trigger. There are many people making serious studies of this. Take it seriously.

(12,485 posts)Because if Trump wins in 2024... everything else goes out the window.
You don't think the new AG will charge Jack Smith with a made up crime?
Willis? Lord knows what they'll come up with...
Trump will spend four years seeking revenge.
Have you ever watched videos or read WW2 history about Hitler's favorite Judge, Roland Freisler??
They set up a Kangaroo Court where defendants would be paraded up the Judge where he'd yell, laugh and generally berate them before sentencing them to death to be carried out within minutes.
Trump dreams of such a thing.

(27,820 posts)... the imminent legal processes that Trump and his cohorts are now facing, and the fact that such processes rely only on facts and the law, and nothing else.
Why you are lecturing me about WW2 history, and other topics that have nothing to do with the OP, is beyond me.
