He has more protection and benefits than the president, it seems.
The cameras follow his convoy of Secret Service everywhere he goes. They hold an umbrella over his head as soon as he steps from his chauffeured SUV. They do everything except throw their jackets on the ground for him to stand on.
We fought a friggin' revolution to get rid of this type of privileged thinking. Americans that cheer this crap on turn my stomach.
It is all horseshit.
(edited "acting" to "interim" for clarification)
(edited because we only have one president - (needs no other clarifier)

(25,369 posts)The cable news shows are becoming Tr**p 24/7. All Tr**p - All The Time.
I'm sick of it. We Americans better all wake up soon or we're in for a world of hurt.
He is a disgraced, two time impeached, four time indicted - criminal defendant - past president.
I don't care what is said to be how a past president should be treated.
He is a criminal - that didn't live up to his oath of office.
He should be stripped of his so called title of past president and everything that's associated with treatment of.
He is a common man now. He is a criminal. He should be treated as such.
It's not even been 24 hours since his mug shot was posted - and that's all we're seeing and hearing about.
I've had enough of this!!!

(3,025 posts)I thought that was reserved only for the current president... not former presidents. And I truly am sick to death of all the privilege he's being afforded. Whether or not one can define what he did as treason as per the constitution, there's no doubt in my mind we're just talking semantics. He's a traitor to this country, and should be treated as such... NOT treated like he's royalty. I'd really like to see him and his hardcore magats deported to Russia or Hungary. Let them live out their fascist dreams over there. I'm tired of lolly coddling these neo nazis - especially when BLM or any progressive march gets nothing but set upon by police and counter protestors; usually ending in violence.

Listen, we Americans miss kings. We are so sorry we had to get rid of ours. But ... we all also look in the mirror
and think, "There stands the King!" We could do it! There's a king in every one of us. And we could achieve it
if only --
It's good to be king and have your own way
Get a feeling of peace at the end of the day
And when your bulldog barks and your canary sings
You're out there with winners, it's good to be king

(9,677 posts)You clearly articulated what I think all of us feel. He's truly a media creation, proof that some people don't deserve a free press. If you are unable or unwilling to discern truth from the facts provided, then a world where truth and fiction are both constitutionally available to you becomes a weapon, not a freedom.

One day when people avoid anything with his name on the facade, it'll all go away. One building or club at a time. He's a fad right now and another shiny object will steal his spotlight.

(6,664 posts)When he shows up with a motorcade (probably provided locally, I see no evidence they flew the vehicles there) & has people holding an umbrella etc, do we know how many of those vehicles & people are provided thanks to the US government (& our taxpayer dollars), & how many, if any are his own? And by "his own" I mean ones he's hired because he always has to put on a show & look super successful in front of the cameras, so I can totally see him paying some guy to wear a suit & hold an umbrella, or whatever.

(111,686 posts)and that's why presidents need to face elections every 4 years and why it is so difficult to amend the constitution.
Case in point: Russia. Their constitution wasn't bad 20 years ago, but whatever Putin didn't like was easy to amend. It's now pretty much in tatters. Meet the new Czar, just as rotten as the old Czars. Oh, he's in for a rough patch, one that will be settled by more bloodshed, while we got rid of TFG through the (more or less) peaceful transition of power.
The man who would be king is now accumulating felony indictments instead of tribute from loyal subjects. I have a sneaking suspicion he might eventually scarper, his transfer of MaraLardo to Junior might presage ducking out just prior to sentencing.
The shit show should be fascinating.

(10,332 posts)There are famously rich actors who demand that the "help" not look them in the eye.
There are hidden staircases and doors in overpriced mansions so that the wait staff can hide the fact that they do all the work.
There are filthy-rich perfectly healthy grown ass adults who can't cook, can't do laundry, can't do their dishes and can't even dress themselves.
Trump is one of these useless filthy-rich. Of course people fawn all over him they are paid to do it. Do you think you would hold an umbrella over a stinky ugly mess like Trump if he didn't pay you??????

(5,306 posts)They are brainwashed to feel that money is god and therefore if you have a lot of it (or at least successfully pretend that you do), then you are of god. We as a nation have fallen for this for over 80 years. The Greek Ideal and the Puritan Narrative are two things that have to change before anything improves around here.

(29,375 posts)Their convention is almost a year off. Personally, I dont think he can legitimately beat Biden because, even with all the unknowns, reports seem to suggest that at least independent supporters are peeling away, and if we all show up that could well be enough to meaningfully widen the spread. Things can change but if I had to bet, Id say the trials, even with broad right wing media coverage, will swing more independents out of his camp.
Good riddance to him and his mindless angry entourage.
