I am a disabled mortician. I like to say I'm just on sebbaticle. Makes me feel smarter...
My only child moved out earlier this year for college. Since it's been just him and I for so long, I've kinda lost my mind this year. Empty nest syndrome is a real thing.
So, obviously I'm not able to afford a super expensive game system or electronic this year. Broke and all... my heart still breaks for those in war and poverty.
I was able to get two packages of dress socks in various designs.
Today I wrapped each individual pair so it seems he has more from me...
I'm laughing and I know he's going to be chuckling tomorrow.
Happy Holidays my dear DU friends. Make it count even when you're down and out.

(6,145 posts)And a very merry Christmas!! I'm broke this year, too. Underemployed lately. But, my nursing agency gave us all a gift certificate for a ham or turkey and veggie sides. So, we're having a spiral sliced bourbon glazed ham with sides. No presents. Just me and the wife, 9 dogs and 2 cats. And beer. Lots of beer.

I thought about it and put in center window because it reminds me of her heart.

(1,856 posts)Your post reminded me of 2 stories.
Almost 30 years ago my boss was giving her daughter 4 new tires for chanukah She gave one tire on each of 4 nights. Big gifts. Daughter was not thrilled, but the next time she needed tires and had to buy them herself she realized was a great gift she'd gotten!
Your idea of wrapping one sock is fun!
Second story. I got 2 different pair of cozy socks for a friend and her teenage daughter, bears are cats. I wrapped them together, told my friend her daughter gets to unwrap the gift and take the one she wants, and my friend would get the other one!
The things we do to make the holidays a bit more fun!
Hope you enjoy your holiday!
