General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAnybody use Nextdoor? It's for keeping up with local events and gossip..
Of course, it has been taken over by rightwingnutjobs. Climate deniers, anti-vaxxers, Biden haters, trump lovers.. They bend every community discussion into uncharted, weird territory.
Increased car prowls? Biden's fault. Gas prices falling? trump's policies worked in the long run.
Etc... ad nauseam.
Today, I posted trump's cheery Christmas message, with no comment, and cut comments off so there wouldn't be a back-and-forth, divisive bunch of posts.
Nextdoor deleted it because it was "disrespectful". No shit. I'm appealing, pointing out that I was not being disrespectful, that I posted the actual message, and that I also posted Biden's Christmas message....with no comments and cut off comments.
Those fuckers want to stifle anything that doesn't fit their narrative.

(10,086 posts)it's pretty benign. Very useful for finding local businesses, meeting new neighbors, catching up on local news, and finding lost pets.

(2,413 posts)...breakdown of civilization because of Biden and the Dems... excuse me..."Demoncrats".
And I live in a blue area in a blue state.
I believe the RWNJs have discovered that trolling works better than actual community involvement.
Problem is... the middle-of-the-road folks get fed a diet of nuttery by a tiny minority, and they come to believe it's majority.

(102,723 posts)at least in general... I was going to sign up just to sell some things locally, but that has given me pause.

(25,565 posts)As for disrespectful, it seems likely that they found his tweet disrespectful and not the fact that you posted it. It is, quite clearly, disrespectful.
To be honest, if I were them, I would have thought you might be promoting it since you didn't provide any commentary and you cut off comments. I think you might be looking at this from the wrong perspective, though I could be wrong.
I'm also not sure how or why it belongs on NextDoor in the first place. It's not exactly neighborhood fodder. Some hosts also delete most political content, unless it's about local candidates. If they left Biden's up, that's probably not the case here.

(1,390 posts)Nextdoor is just looking to harvest and package your information and data, then sell it to the highest bidder. If you must go there use a pseudonym and other fakery so at least whatever they steal is bogus.
BTW: Next-door is HQ'd at 420 Taylor St, San Francisco, CA 94102. Chances are they are not next door to you.

(9,238 posts)Source: I was asked to be a group moderator. Noped right on out of that situation.
The moderation's going to depend on the community. I know in my own, they don't allow any overt political messages/texts. Probably because my neighbors would be at each other's throats.
Instead they're a relatively happy crew of paranoiac lunatics from affluent suburbia. It's much better.
Our motto: EVERYTHING IS SUSPICIOUS!!!

(2,587 posts)As a moderator I am noticing most of the reports on Nextdoor of late have been self-generated by Nextdoor. And the text of the jackass text would be enough to generate such I imagine. If I were to have to sit judgement as to its disrespectful violation I would vote to remove.

(26,038 posts)Generally, it starts with gas prices (local) and then the Biden comments show up.
Posts about crime are very common and they always involve comments about the "soft on crime" mayor and DA etc. They don't get deleted.
There are lots of "my house is armed" posts. One group planned an armed posse to rescue a pit bull in an apartment. Crazy people.
I haven't been on for a few months.

(65,702 posts)But, to either mods or a bot, the text of his tweet could be offensive to many.
If you posted it without comment, the offensive aspect is the post itself. Nothing on you.
That said, I'm not sure why you would forward the continued ravings of a crazy man, without comment, in the first place.

I amused myself during the height of Covid by reporting the rabid anti-vaxx posters as unneighborly.
