John Oliver Offers Clarence Thomas Millions to Resign Immediately 'NOT A JOKE'

"Oliver’s Season 11 premiere ended with perhaps his boldest move yet, as he offered sitting Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas $1 million per year—plus a brand-new, state-of-the-art motor coach worth an estimated $2.4 million, to replace the justice’s current rig—if Thomas resigns immediately from the highest court in the United States. Oliver’s offer expires in 30 days."

Whether an offer is made with the intent to deliver (i.e., not a joke) is not in the slightest degree dependent on the likelihood that the offer will be accepted.

If this doesn't clear it up for you, let me know and I'll see if I can find a better way to help you understand.

It is, of course, a joke in that--as you have with punctilious accuracy identified--it is intended as a bit of a tease in the direction of Mr. Justice Thomas.

Humor is funny that way (no joke!); there can be two things going on at once, and it actually makes the humor even more better!

Biden would not get to appoint a new justice. Republicans would simply refuse to confirm anyone, so close (9, 10 months) to an election they're convinced they will win. They did that with Obama a year out. Then they confirmed a Trump nominated justice twenty minutes before he left office.

Oh, the hypocrisy.

With the rules, there is no filibuster on SCOTUS. We control the Senate and can confirm whomever President Biden nominated.

Clarence and Ginny would be taking a pay cut though. I believe they're raking in far more than a million per year from the big GQP donors though. They have quite the racket going.
They must be graduates from the Trump School of Grifting.

Yes, Clarence and Ginni are raking in much more than $1 million a year in corrupt money.

I mean, they have no ethics requirements, just a general list of stuff that they might want not to do, unless they really want to do it.

No recusal guidelines, no official, binding rules on gifts.

At this point, Clarence Thomas or any of the others could blatantly say "I will be deciding this case based on the interests of my patrons." and no one could do a single freaking thing.

Yeah, those robes should have patches on them to designate who they are owned by...the one thing we know for sure is that six of them would have zero patches that say "the people of the United States".

We could do a Go Fund Me to get him to resign and offer more. The Stinking Nazi just got tens of millions to pay for his court fines. So, a Go Fund Me would be perfect for this.

This was a suggestion from RainCaster and I think they are onto something there.

he could have five million a year....but, the others are still there.

I'm sick over the fact that the Supreme Court has zero responsibility to anyone but their various benefactors...all of whom can outbid us.
