Does that mean the doctors aren't up to the task?

means you're a terrible person and probably a traitor. That's why we need a POTUS who's a fucking moron (and criminal, and misogynist, and racist, and...) Way better than someone with any of that evil expertise!

for education, experts, and science. Just as everybody can express their views on social media, everybody can diagnose themselves and demand a certain drug.

Skyrizi does both. But it's two separate commercials and two different catchy songs!

retired. Said all pills were bad but sometimes you had to take one for your health. Said he was tired of all the newfangled pills coming out and preferred the tried and true medicines. He and I were on the same page. Before I saw him I went thru a bunch of pills for diabetes and was nauseous for 7 years. Actos wrecked me and there was talk of putting a black box on it. I finally went to insulin as a refuge.

The ads that don't mention the disorder being treated. They usually have the list of potential side effects that is longer than the ad itself.

Dealing with advertising and the FDA. TV ads were not allowed. Magazine ads had to print the entire package insert with every ad. Would be even more expensive now, with endless adverse reactions. Including death ... yikes!

I always laugh when I hear "ask your doctor." I am sure some dopey ad knows best.

I think the ads should be required to state the retail cost per dose, and disclose if any government or university funds were used in research and development of the drug. My primary MD says he hates the ads, patients come in asking for these drugs which are not appropriate in their cases or are prohibitively expensive. Remember all the hepatitis C drug ads from a few years ago? The cost of a full course of those drugs was well into 5 digits in the US, but about $500 in other countries. From what I remember, the cost is the US was based on what insurance would pay and not on the actual cost of the drug.

One more reason we need a single payer system.

My favorite side effect from one of those commercials was "you may not remember preparing and consuming food."

The possible side effects include projectile vomiting, giant eyeballs, the condition known as hot dog fingers and last but not least: children born with the head of a Golden Retriever. Hilarious ad!

Also, when you don't know the circumstances, preferences, sensitivities, etc. of the people involved you really don't know what's "easy" for them.

Finally, there's the concern that many people don't turn them off and the effect that has on the health & well-being of Americans.

My Dad had a heart attack many years ago, he was prescribed some "medicine" which of course had side-effects, my Mom's cousin was a Surgeon but he had gone to homeopathic medicine, he started treating my father, an it was fantastic. My Dad regained his energy, he felt great and he lasted a long time feeling great. The day it happened, it did the way he wanted, he didn't even notice it, it was so fast, I still miss him terribly, but he had a great life, he was a great Dad.

Had a doctor friend of mine who used to go crazy over his patients that would demand a prescription for “the purple pill” even though they didn’t know what it did. They just saw the people in the ads having so much fun they wanted some too.
