Rachel is on fire tonight!

Telling it like it is about the repuke party chapter and verse. The slavery justifying,
birth control and IVF denying, polio and measles enabling party that will control our lives if we let them win are being called out.

It's only shocking because of the normalization on other channels. Every word is absolutely true. So yeah, frightening, but if you get a chance you should watch.

In the meantime, this should be the norm from the media, not the exception.

She really is telling the bald truth, and it scares and motivates me. Her refrain tonight is "the choice, whether you like it or not, is Trump or Biden. PICK ONE."

Being from a solidly blue state, I want to know what I can do besides send money to the DNC and every candidate I can. I'm terrified.

What I've done (also being from a solidly blue state) is participate in volunteering for candidates in other states. I've phone banked, sent money (I'm on a tight budget so I normally send around $20 to several candidates in other states), and send emails to my friend circle letting them know which are the close races. They ask me for my input during the elections. Based on their interests, they either send money or volunteer in other ways.

I really, really invest time (I simply feel compelled to do so) in trying to determine which elections are winnable as opposed to spending their time and resources on candidates who don't stand a chance.

to figure out where to send my small contributions as well.

I do postcards to voters, I have a small facebook action page, I send money when I can to the candidates I feel will use it well, and I am constantly trying to "spread the word" when and where I can.

since I have unlimited talk, text, data I think there were Stare Democratic groups that had a set up so you could, I guess, hook into their phone database w a computer dialing out the #'s, and call Dem voters, maaaybe certain Independents for GOTV.

It could a been a mix of plain GOTV in Blue States/areas, or also where a more mixed voters Dems needed to get all their people out voting esp bc of the Electoral College.

I plan to do a hell of a lot more of this whenever they start in beginning of Nov. Maybe be they'll even do a early voting GOTV, idk.
(duh, I actually haven't looked to see when the actual date in on the calendar)

Hope this helps! 🙂

and make sure they have a plan to vote. It is those states that are continually eliminating people from the voter rolls so they need to check now and then later again. Send them the instructions to do so. This can be done by a simple postcard with something catchy that attracts attention.

For more than a couple mins here and there in weeks. As far as I'm concerned MSNBC is no better than newsmax. For every story like this they spend twice as much time either normalizing what trump says or does or just ignoring it as if it didn't happen.
In no way shape or form is the news media our friend. They want trump to be president so bad they can taste it.

"shades of grey" anymore. I mean in the 2016 election I watched MSNBC show an empty podium for over 30 mins while Hilary and Bernie were doing rallies in small inset screens in the corner with no sound because Trump was expected to talk at it. Over 30 mins.
In this election cycle they have done everything in their power to gloss over Trump's BS or just ignore it altogether. They gush over him every single time he wins a primary like he is some hero to the nation instead of a rapist and a conman that is a Putin sycophant.

I understand your fear level is high. Not everyone is constitutionally able to take in so much input. My sister and I take breaks regularly. Too much reality is sometimes unhealthy for us and we recognize this. You can be very well informed if you just read DU at times when TV is too much.

Sure... there is plenty of stuff on MSNBC that pisses me off.. Andrea Mitchel comes to mind... but I am sorry, there is NOTHING i have ever seen on newsmax that comes close to the worst on MSNBC, or any other MSM channel... It is not only disingenuous to say they are basically the same, it is propaganda of the worst kind... treat it like we should view candidates for elective office... it is like taking a bus.. it may not get you exactly where you want to be..but it gets pretty close. The other option is to sit there at the bus station and not take any bus..because they do not go exactly where you want to go. That is how the world works, nothing is really black and white (well, except maybe nazis, KKK and trump)... but we need to distinguish the shades and act accordingly... just my opinion. Peace

I get incensed when anyone tries to claim that MSNBC is "just like fill in the blank" or "just as bad as fill in the blank," because it's simply not true.

I don't watch every show on MSNBC, so I can't vouch for all of them, but the ones I watch do a great job of presenting reality WITHOUT glossing over TSF's insanity or pretending that horrible things aren't going to happen if he were to somehow get elected again. They tell it like it IS, which is why I watch those shoes.

I will note that the nights where they cover election returns are not representative of their usual programming. On those nights, they are focusing on the numbers, how they add up, and what they mean. They get excited when a bunch of new numbers come in, because it's a new set of data to analyze.

I enjoy those shows, because I like seeing all my favorite MSNBC peeps sitting around the table interacting with each other, but I don't recommend election nights as a way of sampling MSNBC to see what it's like, because it's very different from the regular shows.

MSNBC does NOT normalize what Trump says. Not in my experience. If you know of a case where someone on MSNBC did that. Please let me know who/what show it was.

I've never watched Newsmax, but my understanding is that it's very right wing. That's NOT MSNBC. If it was, I wouldn't be sble to stand watching it.

The Democratic Primary field in 2020 had 35 Million votes. That's 7.3%

https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/monday-feb-26-scoreboard-the-five-is-tops-in-total-viewers-and-demo/

I don't dispute that those who do watch enjoy the show, I just don't see it (or any other cable news) having an impact on politics in the real world.

And the op never made any claim Maddow was having some big impact. They just complimented what Maddow was saying and recommended others watch.

And yes, the numbers are different, but you're making my case. If you assume some of her viewership DIDN'T vote in the Democratic Primary, they don't seem to be the type of people for whom a "Call to Action" is going to resonate.

Novel. (well, not for her!)

He has also targeted other groups, including LGBTQ people, Muslims and others. “Note to liberals; I’ll accept ‘Gay Pride’ when you accept ‘White Pride,’” he wrote in 2014, according to screenshots posted by the liberal news site Talking Points Memo. Another post read, “I believe that homosexuality is a sin and that those people who are ‘proudly coming out of the closet’ are standing in open rebellion against God.”

In 2018, he railed on Facebook that the hit superhero movie “Black Panther” was “created by an agnostic Jew and put to film by satanic marxist.” Invoking an antisemitic trope about Jewish pursuit of money and using a Yiddish slur for Black people, Robinson, who is Black, wrote that the film was “only created to pull the shekels out of your Schvartze pockets.” The following year, the News and Observer in Raleigh reported that he responded affirmatively to a far-right religious leader who invoked an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

---

“His inflammatory statements invoke harmful stereotypes and conspiracy theories, downplay the Holocaust, and denigrate entire groups of human beings,” the letter said. “They are not just deeply troubling, but downright dangerous.”
