There are tens of millions of them across America. You can't reason with them, or demonstrate that he's conning them and destroying their hopes for a better future. Some religious fanatics believe that he's the "Second Coming." Bigots, and every type of hater, believe he is the one who will rid America of all the "THEMS." Total imbeciles believe every word that comes from his mouth.
So what would it take for them to turn their backs on him? How far could he go?
Could he video himself taking a crap while he denounces Blacks, Jews, Muslims and those who don't speak English?
Could he spread an AI photo of himself nailed to a cross?
Could he eat a baby on prime time TV?
I really don't know how much his minions would put up with.
And if you want to know what this means for the rest of us if he regains the pResidency, think of Germany in the 1940's. He's so ignorant that he probably doesn't know all the details of that era, but I'm sure some helpful aide will show him films of the camps, the "shower" rooms, and the ovens.
Do you really think "It Can't Happen Here?" Wake up. We're well down that road. And if He "wins"/steals it in November, we'll be taking that road all the way. And this time around, there won't be any America to "Save the world." That America will be long gone and will have become "The destroyer of worlds."
And every single person who votes for him will be responsible for the end of democracy.

(114 posts)And deprogramming someone is very difficult. Jim Jones did a favor by having his lemmings drink Kool Aid. I dont think this one would do that. Hes way too narcissistic and even more demented. Our only hope is that he goes so far off the deep end that his handlers cannot prop him up enough to run for office.

That would make most people say "that's enough".

(2,047 posts)And maybe a hot mic situation where he calls his followers trailer trash and hayseed rubes, etc., and goes on & on like that. Like the Andy Griffith character in A Face in the Crowd.
Probably still a large number that would say Look what the mean Democrats have done to him! with lots of tears in their eyes.

Remember that Trump is the produce of a reactionary, authoritarian GOP consumed by fear of positive, beneficial change, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and hate.
Perhaps in the coming decades sanity will return to the GOP, but this rightwing cult of madness will continue for the foreseeable future.

(278 posts)Im a native Texan proudly living in the Home of the Free and the Land of the Crazy. We dont hide crazy - we set it out on the porch with a big ole glass of sweet tea. Seriously, you cant reason with the majority of Trumpers, in my opinion. I say this for two reasons 1) None of my bat crazy relatives will ever admit they were wrong/conned/misled or whatever. Not happening. 2) Trump hates the same people they do. They love the fact he openly says things theyve secretly believed for years. Theyre not angry, stupid or ignorant. They are terrified that brown, black, yellow, green polka dot people will reverse discriminate against them due to the dearth of white babies. Mmmmkay

There is one reason this country cannot progress and fulfill its potential. That reason is the RW cult of lies and hate.

(20,965 posts)Without Trump, it is unclear who steps into the GOP leadership vacuum. Trump has no obvious successor. His kids are essentially zeros. His VP was a zero. The primaries show the next Gen GOP are national zeroes.

(2,022 posts)The only way they can have "another Trump" would be for another person with no history or future in politics, who has oodles of money to agree to be their lawless figurehead. I just don't see that happening.

(2,022 posts)All of a sudden changing their angle to "can you believe how gullible our viewers have been!?!?!?" with their personalities having a 24/7 high-fiving yuck fest at the expense of their viewers, all along showing a mash-up of all the nutso stuff Trump has said that they previously ignored.
Unless or until the source of the propaganda destroys the world that they have allowed the lemmings to create, it will never be over.
One last note: Trump's base is much smaller than the media lets on. His base did not elect him in 2016. Party-line Republican voters who had previously voted for Romney, McCain, Bush, Dole, Bush and Regan elected Trump in 2016. Without THOSE voters, Trump never even gets the nomination and would have lost the election in a Regan-Mondale type wipeout. Hillary Clinton echoed this when she infamously opined "Why am I not winning this by a landslide" as a response to polls showing it would be close.

the dregs of society that rose up from the ooze in 2016 to vote for him. New voter registrations set records in many states - especially red ones. These people had previously abandoned politics, didnt trust either party, and hated gubmint of any kind. But they loved him, so they came down from the hills and up from the swamps to cast a vote - many for the first time in their lives.
When he dies, a good percentage of these cretins will crawl back under their rocks. If there is a demented personality that can step into and fill his shoes (and I cant think of anyone that could), some may stick around to worship the new god. But since a good number will slink away, I think that new gods hold over the entire party would be much weaker.
The rest will fall in with traditional repub politics and well have to deal with them for a few more decades. He swelled their ranks with a lot of new meat. That might be the greatest damage he has done to progressive governance.
So - the short answer to you question is nothing short of his death. I dont see any other way it falls apart.

(17,128 posts)The real question is, what about ALL the creatures (cultists) he gave birth to? America has changed forever, i'm afraid. Let's start with VOTING like never before, hoping that when this asshole loses, the rest will crawl back under the rocks they were hiding under for decades.

(1,862 posts)to me too. We aren't dealing with our old GOP rivals who could be at least semi-reasonable, and capable of compromise.
The old wing has mostly resigned or plan to soon. All that is left is foaming at the mouth angy people who surrendered themselves to a cult leader. I don't think even he has complete control over them now. The mob mentality has set in deep.
I agree we have to GOTV for President Biden and all Democrats. We also, however, need to be prepared for the lunatics who are likely going to try underhanded dirty tactics including mass violence not to honor the results.
Think. Again.
(8,892 posts)...how much he detests his followers, if we could show them how he really thinks of them as worthless low-lifes and suckers, maybe they would begin to understand how foolish they have been.
