No, Mr. Trump.

Short video here: https://substack.com/@peoplepowerunited/note/c-51498484

“No, Mr. Trump. At a time when one out of four seniors are struggling to survive on less than $15,000 a year and nearly half of older workers have no retirement savings, our job is not to cut Social Security and Medicare. Our job must be to expand these programs so that every senior can retire with the dignity and respect they deserve. And the way to do that is by demanding that the wealthiest people in America pay their fair share of taxes, not giving them another massive tax break as Trump has proposed.” - Bernie Sanders

Bernie understands that the repub/fascists will never get behind these programs because "those" people benefit from them. It really is that simple.

than I do in upscale neighborhoods. The uber wealthy will absolutely vote for him based on tax policy alone, but a significant portion of his base is not well to do.

Trump and the GOP keep talking about what social programs they will eliminate. Programs that poor MAGA supporters need! Why would they vote for someone who advocates that? Oh that's right, I forgot, they prefer hate to economic well-being. Silly me.

these are people who carry signs that say “Keep your government out of my Medicare”.

They don’t understand that their disability checks are actually social security.

They are told that illegal immigrants are being handed the American dream on a platter, and they believe it.

They are the reason Trump loves the uneducated.

Social Security was to be part of a 3 tier plan. Savings, pension & Social Security was to finance retirement. We all know what happened to pensions. Lack of savings have left many seniors living on only Social Security. The rich need to pay their fair share.

...it will keep getting harder and harder to save anything.

Telling people to save for retirement when they need every penny of their income and then some to survive is a slap in the face!

She is retired and entirely reliant on the generosity of her family to make ends meet.

She loves SS and Medicare AND she supports Trump and Republicans. I don't get it.

Social Security pays my rent and utilities.
Any extra; gas, heating, insurance, groceries, comes out of savings.

There is a lady that is a cashier at a grocery store I go to and she said she still has to work because her social security barely makes her rent. She said working at the store makes it so she can eat and go out occasionally. I felt sad for her. Both my parents at that age had enough income to survive on. I don’t plan on retiring until I’m 70 so I can get the maximum out of social security. Another lady I encountered was easily over 80 crouched over at the CVS store. I asked her if she could ask for a tall chair to check out people and that in Italy most cashiers can sit or stand. This is so bs. We are the richest country I. The world and people over 65 are struggling to survive. If we could only raise the cap of how much money is taken out paychecks and end the cap currently in place. Tax the rich!

Women take time out of the workforce to raise children and end up with much lower payments because they’ve paid in less. Women should get SS credit for working full time while they are raising children - because they are.

jan schakowsky has been pushing on this forevah.
i was a stay at home mom, then an artist w/o a pay check. my bennies barely cover my medicare premium. my ex is younger than me, so i had to wait til he turned 62 to get the spousal. we paid the max every yrs for 2 decades. he gets 100%, i get 50%.
now, this seems like it’s in accordance w divorce law- 50-50. except that wd be- he gets 75% and so do i. that wd help, but damn, we shd both get 100%. it’s y so many women end up in poverty.

same w dependents. our youngest is disabled. they only worked a couple quarters, so they’ve been getting basic ssdi, about $800/ mo. when he hit 62, they get it based on his earnings. less than $2k a mo to live on.
and we’ve both been fighting to get it changed over and having a hard time.
luckily he’s in a position to help now, but when he’s gone, his estate is set up to take care of them, and somewhat screw the other kids. esp since he remarried.
i told him recently that, since none of them talk to me, i plan to leave them nothing. he’s not happy about that, but tough.
he’s doing fine, and i took a bath during the plague.
