Born To Run The Numbers notes that Republicans have their "hat" -- the ubiquitous red cap with the words "Make America Great Again." Sure, it may not be the greatest political slogan of all time, but they have one... and Democrats don't. And that's important: Democrats need to be able summarize exactly what they stand for and why you should vote for them -- in a single, pithy, powerful, memorable 5-7 word sentence. Today, BTRTN makes its recommendation for what should go on the "Blue" hat:

Excerpts: "Smart marketers understand the golden rule of advertising: focus. You must find a singular, powerful message... simple enough for your target to remember what you stand for, and powerful enough to engender loyalty, advocacy, and action... Put a great tagline on the end of your commercials, your digital ads, your direct marketing, and suddenly all of your messaging begins to feel cohesive, consistent, and additive. It multiplies the impact...
"So what slogan should go on the blue hat? Today lets walk through a disciplined methodology to find the right words. You may not agree with the slogan I recommend, but perhaps youll feel compelled to join us in urging Democratic leaders to come up with something that is powerful and poetic...
"We need a hat. Now..."

(782 posts)...even read the article? I suspect not, as the "hat" is simply a way to convey that the Democrats do not have a singular, focused message to unify their brand communications going into the thick of the re-election cycle. Harder to dismiss that problem...

(782 posts)Did you read the article?
The article explains why a comprehensive communications program benefits from a unifying theme line, just as major advertisers consistently invest in taglines like "The Ultimate Driving Machine" for BMW. The article is not about getting your political information from a hat. I think you might find it worth reading the actual article.

(54,129 posts)But in marketing you don't want to be on the side going, "Yeah, so? So what? We can play that game too."
Dumbed down slogans is the opponant's strength and you don't want to engage an opponent on their strengths and your own weaknesses. The best approach, imho, is going after Trump on a law-and-order platform. Dump the facts on-air, every swindle, every charity looted, every contractor stiffed, every tenant forced into subquality homes or offices, every health or building code violation, every dollar laundered for the Russian mob, every employee or contractor sexually harassed, every beauty contestant walked in on, every sheikh who offered a bribe, every document he mishandled...
And then go after him on diapergate

(32,829 posts)Okay, seriously, what about FORWARD? Kind of long, as far as the letters, but straight to the point--no dumb slogan or acronym decipher needed. It can fit on a hat.
We are FORWARD thinkers. We don't need or want to return to the days of massive racial and gender discrimination and inequality (although we have to go back temporarily to clean up the magat mess with Roe v Wade etc. 🙄 )! We understand that the work is not finished and more still has to be done, but we can get there together.
I know previously they toyed with build back better, which is a little clunky and awkward.
