The Port of Baltimore is the ninth busiest port in the US

The bridge debris is massive and will have to be cleared before shipping can safely pass through.

According to AquaMap (digital nautical charts), the main channel is between 50-60 feet deep. Mid-sized ships that can transit the Panama Canal (such as the Dali) are called Panamax and they draw 35-50 feet depending on the ship’s dimensions and the extent of its cargo.

That channel will be closed until enough debris is cleared to allow safe passage.

Time to do what the Egyptians did when that ship got stuck in the Suez Canal. Seize it until damage and loss are paid! Wonder Why Mar 26 #5
Unfortunately, the loss of this port for awhile may create new supply chain issues that exacerbate inflation. Lonestarblue Mar 26 #6

I remember when that bridge was new, I was using it every week for a couple years. I never would have anticipated the collapse I saw in those videos. Other bridges, yeah, but not that one. It had to have been in the 1980s last time I even saw it from a distance.

Serious event that will have lasting impact.

Is where my mother’s Polish ancestors entered the country many, many ago.

I hope no one was seriously hurt in the collapse of the bridge.

And we all know who will be blamed unfairly for any cost increases.
