U.S. Latinos fear new mass deportations may target all Hispanics

And they have good reason to fear, I think.

Laws like those recently proposed in Texas and Louisiana (and in other GOP led states, I would anticipate) would subject ANY person of Latino appearance to undue stops and searches, perhaps worse -

based on nothing other than their perceived ethnicity. Why should any person or family be subjected to such?

Oh wait. Here's an idea. DON'T VOTE FOR THE BIGOT IN CHIEF or his fascist henchmen.

U.S. Latinos fear new mass deportations may target all Hispanics - Axios

More than half of U.S. Latino adults worry any new mass deportations would target all Latinos regardless of legal status, a new Axios-Ipsos Latino Poll in partnership with Noticias Telemundo finds.

Why it matters: Former President Trump has promised mass deportations if he wins a second term, and past efforts have swept up U.S. citizens, creating generations of trauma.

By the numbers: 54% of Mexicans and Mexican Americans — the targets of mass deportations in the 20th Century — said they worried that any new mass deportation plan would target all Latinos, including U.S. citizens and lawful residents.

65% of Central Americans, who have been targets in recent deportations, said the same.

So did 47% of Puerto Ricans — who are all U.S. citizens — and 37% of Cuban Americans, who have benefited from decades of Cold War-era "special treatment" and what some scholars say are unique immigration privileges.

Overall, 52% of Latinos surveyed said they worry that all Latinos will be targets of the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.

having to live in fear of being deported because some local DA is running in a rube red district, or something. Same for other minorities who live in fear.

Washington, DC, April 9, 2024 – Heading into the 2024 presidential election, Latino Americans view both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump unfavorably, according to the findings of a new Axios/Ipsos poll conducted in partnership with Noticias Telemundo of over 1,000 Latino/Hispanic Americans. The poll also finds that Latinos tend to prefer Trump when it comes to the economy, crime, and immigration, but prefer Biden when it comes to abortion issues.

Aside from political preferences, the poll also finds that younger Latinos are less likely to feel that they can live the “American Dream” and feel less optimistic about the future of the United States.
snip....

The Axios/Ipsos poll was conducted in partnership with Noticias Telemundo between March 22nd – 28th, 2024, by Ipsos, using our KnowledgePanel®. This poll is based on a nationally representative probability sample of 1,012 Latino/Hispanic adults age 18 or older in the United States. (Read between the lines: Most surveys are of registered voters. There is a huge difference)

Our recruitment process employs an addressed-based sampling methodology using the latest Delivery Sequence File of the USPS – a database with full coverage of all delivery points in the US. Households invited to join the panel are randomly selected from all available households in the U.S. Persons in the sampled households are invited to join and participate in the panel.

Note: "All available households" will also include non-citizens, non-voters etc etc etc.

8. So, why the hell would they vote GOP? Because they are here and are now against change.

Yes, reason to worry. But it wasn’t always like this.

Some established brown people actually want brown new -comers to stay out. It’s just a fact. It’s a strange form of nationalism that is not racism.

I have spoken to established Latinos who are anti-immigrant. It’s really weird and difficult to fathom.

The easiest deduction is that they just become Republicans once they are here for a while because they are now “Americans” and they then do not want change.

I don’t get it. Live and learn, huh?

is in the works in trump's campaign. Latinos will be prime targets, but that plan won't stop with just Latinos...Asian Americans, LGBTQ+ folks, Muslim Americans, known progressive whites, African Americans even....we all have to up our percentage of votes for Biden.

taking away women's rights, they don't see it applying to them. Or mocking Democratic women candidates as only running on being women and refusing to vote for them because "I'm not voting with my vagina" -- really stupid.
