I hate republicans.

It has just occurred to me that I have been stressed out by them at least since they stole to election in 2000, if not before. Every time I think they can’t fuck us over more, I get surprised. Every time I think they can’t introduce worse crazy fucks to us, I get surprised.

Ok, just venting. I will vote, even though I live in TN and it won’t matter. We have the chance to oust that monster Marsha Blackburn, but I’ll be surprised if we do. This seriously stupid Trump country.

Maybe I just need a hug. I’m glad we have DU.

11. Poll: Too many GOP voters back authoritarian vision under Trump
Wed Apr 10, 2024, 08:57 PM
Apr 10

A new national poll found 57% of Republican voters endorsing the idea of Donald Trump "taking action ... without waiting for Congress or the courts.”

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/poll-many-gop-voters-back-authoritarian-vision-trump-rcna147012

Trump also signaled an interest in seizing control of government departments and agencies that have historically operated with independence, enacting radical anti-immigrant plans, using government powers to crack down on journalists, and hiring right-wing lawyers who would be positioned to help Trump politicize federal law enforcement and exact revenge against his perceived political foes.

This authoritarian vision didn’t appear to have any meaningful effect on the former president’s support within his party, as evidenced by the fact that he easily won nearly every primary and caucus he competed in. Did Trump excel despite his desire for a radical power-grab or because of it?

The Washington Post’s Aaron Blake summarized in his latest column:

Polling on the GOP’s appetite for a more powerful chief executive has been slow in coming. But it has been coming. And the emerging picture is that Republicans are remarkably on-board with a president who isn’t answerable to Congress and the courts — significantly more so than Democrats. And perhaps as significantly, very few Republicans seem to strongly object to the idea.

The Associated Press reported this week, for example, on the latest national AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey, which found that 57% of Republicans endorsed the idea of Trump “taking action on the country’s important policy issues without waiting for Congress or the courts.”.....

The obvious problem, of course, is that too much of one of the nation’s political parties is moving away from democracy and the American system of government. But it also helps explain recent events in GOP nominating contests.

The more radical Trump became, the more his critics pointed to the former president’s authoritarian vision. It was against this backdrop that much of the Republican base effectively said in response, “Sounds good. Sign us up.”

I love singing this song at the top of my lungs.

I want to sue them for ruining my health. The stress increased to the highest level of my life over the last 8 years. They should at least be sued by the families of dead Covid victims.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE them!!!!!

I didn’t find DU until 2005. I voted the butterfly ballot in Palm Beach County in 2000 and remember how I had to put it just right into the machine to make sure I was voting for Gore. I still have our sample ballots. What a nightmare that was! I worried all day long that people wouldn’t make sure their ballot went in correctly. Turns out the worry was justified.

different then them and or disagree with them, they hate people who don’t practice their phony baloney religion, they hate black people, they hate Jewish people, they hate gay people, they hate immigrants, they hate rules, they hate laws, they hate caring, they hate kindness, and they even hate education and intelligence….these people are so filled with hate, is it any surprise that the majority would one day come to the place, where they would end up in return, hating those who have injected so much ugliness and hatred and division into almost every facet of society?

I remember thinking - "AT LAST!!!! SOMEBODY ELSE thinks the same way I do, about this!"

And "Resident Bush" was great! I was there a lot, and I started noticing the left-side column where there were other like-minded sites listed. One of 'em was the Democratic Underground. So I went there - and have never left since then!

I still remember feeling so alone in how I felt - about the theft of the election from Al Gore. Just really alone and isolated and discouraged. And MAN - this place perked me right up. I never felt alone like that again.

The 5th had never sent a Republican to Congress. The redistricting cut it up so that a Democrat could never win it. They tried to do it to Memphis/Shelby county but didn't get there

We have had lots of that here too but ours are more strangely shaped districts, not cut like a pizza

so I get it. We used to be purple....then, apparently, electing Barack Obama short circuited a whole bunch of people's brains.

Heck, in our county, we can't even get Dems to run for office, because the Republicans are so vile.

ETA: It is hard for me to reconcile how I feel about people with MAGA flags, Trump paraphernalia and the ones who just spout off about him and "the libs" all the freaking time.

I honestly just can't spend time around them, at family gatherings, I take my kindle and find a place to read, because I just can't manage to make small talk with someone who worships that orange man. In our town, they are everywhere and I find myself just withdrawing from everything. I just can't with it all anymore.

No one can plead ignorance. Either they support Trump and the GOP in spite of the openly racist, misogynist, fascist agenda, or because of it. There are no innocent actors; every single one of them has voted for years and with eyes open to drive the country toward extremist rightwing tyranny.

The only good Republican is the one who says “holy shit I was wrong!” and vows never again to vote Republican at any level.

HOWEVER, this endless fracas over Louis DeJoy and his "god-given" (actually trump-given) right to destroy the postal system because because no one seems to be able to fire his ass, is simply beyond belief! I find that I'm coming perilously close to hating DeJoy and the bastard who appointed him in the first place. Benjamin Franklin must be rolling in his grave!

Hardly the way to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
This is what happens when sociopaths make their way through our weak-for-Republican-and-not-for-Democrat vetting processes into government. Instead of serving the People they serve themselves and at any/all cost(s)--they don't care.

I hate the majority of them too especially now with Trump and his magats. I voted for Regan in my first election in 1980, but after I went to a Community College and a local Liberal Arts College to get my B.A. I haven't voted for a Republican in a state or national election since. I have stopped voting in my local elections all together since most Republicans run unopposed in our town. So I sympathize with being surrounded by the enemy. If it weren't for the fact that I love the land that has been in our family since 1904, I would have moved.

Claudia, can't stand her ass, Tenney is my Rep. Makes me want to puke everytime I see her on TV.

At least NY State usually votes for Democrats as Governors with a few unfortunate exceptions like Pataki.

Why in the world would you try to impose your religion on other people? That's a republican trick.

My dad was a minister, I went to 2 very conservative Christian universities, and my husband was a minister for the first decade of our marriage, until he saw the hypocrisy and got out. I know the verses and all the contradictions, so I'll pass.

The bottom line is that those people are hurting "the least of these." And I hate them for it. I make no apologies.
