(16,435 posts)But I don't believe he would ever go for an insanity defense. That would require him to go along with being portrayed as incompetent and defective, and his narcissism would never allow that.
His entire disordered personality is based on a greatly exaggerated need for admiration and constant reassurance of his superiority to others. Admitting any kind of vulnerability or imperfection is anathema to him.
This is an individual who can't stand to admit he is wrong about anything, no matter how minor, and rejects even the slightest hint of criticism. He can't tolerate being seen as a fallible human being like the rest of us, much less as someone who is mentally incompetent enough to qualify for an insanity defense.
Even if his lawyers ever suggested such a thing (which I doubt they would, for fear of his reaction), he'd never go along with it. Never ever, not in a million years.

Hitler did eventually kill himself.

(17,386 posts)Russian tanks were closing in and were literally mere yards from his bunker. He knew the end was coming soon anyway, and he didn't want to share Mussolini's fate (shot and then hung upside down so he could be mocked and beaten after his death).
Until then, it was unthinkable.

(16,435 posts)~Trgger warning for (implied, NOT graphic) violence ahead~
And he did it, because he was terrified of what was going to happen to him otherwise.
By that time, the whole world knew that the Red Army was going to get to Berlin well ahead of the Allies, and Hitler had every reason to assume the Russians would deal with with him very, VERY harshly if they got the chance. Stalin was mightily pissed off at the havoc the Germans had wreaked on his country (with good reason), he had a huge score to settle with Der Fuehrer, and he was NOT known for his kindness or his compaseion.
If it had been the Allies that were practically on Hitler's doorstep instead of the Russians, I'm not sure he would have taken that way out; but that wasn't the case. He knew damned well that the Red Army was about to take Berlin, and if they found Hitler alive, he knew he would face much worse consequences than a mere trial followed by a very public execution. He wanted to avoid that, for obvious reasons.
I honestly don't know what any of that has to do with TSF's situation, and I still stand by what I said about him not being willing to "play crazy" in court. As I said, I can't imagine Trump pretending to be mentally incapacited. That goes against everything I know about him and about narcissistic personality disorder. I could more easily imagine him doing what Hitler did, IF the circumstances were remotely comparable, but they aren't. Trump isn't facing anything CLOSE to what Hitler would have faced, no matter how many crimes he may eventually be convicted of. Not in any way, shape, or form.

(22,697 posts)It wasn't my notion to compare the two men, their situations or their histories.
I just suggested another option. I wasn't challenging the well known history or discounting anyone else's opinion.
What I have, is a strong belief that we come closer to knowing what appears to be in a person's heart than we do to knowing what's on their mind.
Right now there are two individuals that I would love to see leave our earth by any means fate allows. They are Mike Johnson and Donald Trump.
I care very little about what could motivate them to make my dreams reality. The history will write itself.
Thanks for your reply, ShazzieB. ❤️

I definitely agree with being sick and tired of both Johnson and Trump.
Trying to figure out what makes people tick, especially very bad ones, is a fascination of mine. I know it's one not everybody shares, but sometimes I get so caught up in it that I forget.
May we and this country of ours all survive this insanity and move on to better things. Meanwhile, I'll still be over here trying to psychoanalyze terrible people, because I just can't seem to help myself!

(19,204 posts)He's owned the Nodfather for about 20 years. Why go through all the time and money grooming another asset?
He might want to get someone going in the wings, though. This one could be taking the big dirt nap before too long. He's getting up there in years, doesn't exercise, has a poor diet, and is under a lot of pressure, contrary to what the recent photographs show.
