Reality of Being a Criminal Defendant Dawns on Trump
April 16, 2024 at 6:33 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Three times on Monday the former president asked Justice Juan Merchan to cut him loose from his hush money trial to attend to other matters some personal, some political and some legal. Three times the judge responded with, essentially, eh, well see.
Its a jarring new reality for Trump, who has been accustomed to setting the agenda for most of his adult life and, in the years since his presidency, has bounced between his sunny Florida resort and political rallies brimming with adoring fans. But this spring, hell have to spend most weekdays in a drab 15th floor county courtroom in a city with very little MAGA.

(12,300 posts)he doesn't care because he feels he is above the law. shithole's whole life is a lie complete with conspiracy theories which is his strength with the insane, the evangelists and downright people who just hate.

(32 posts)The experience has to be all but unendurable. The lack of deference alone, the very fact that he is being processed and treated like (ugh) other people, should be enough to make him paint the walls with Heinz and its 57 varieties.

(47,541 posts)But he has no control over anything which must be driving him crazy.
Trump is often compared to a toddler and in this case, that really applies. A toddler always wants to be the center of attention, but does not want to sit still and be quiet.

This is too good.

(47,541 posts)I can picture him throwing tantrums and refusing to get dressed. They'll have to keep a Dr. Feel Good on hand each morning to give him medication to keep him docile and cooperative.

(3,629 posts)He's "MISTER Trump over there, the defendant." He's basically a desk lamp. Yeah we all expect him to violate those orders toot sweet but he managed to make it through Monday without melting down. After yesterday six more weeks of that must feel like eternity to him. All together now: "AWWWWWwwwwwww..."

(15,542 posts)Love it!
I think the only way he could make it through Monday was because he was probably drugged with something which is why he fell asleep too.

(47,541 posts)In a sense he IS the center of attention as the trial is about him, but as I said, he has no control over much of anything and he has to sit still and be quiet. He finally seems to realize there are very real consequences if he doesn't behave. Six weeks of this will be a nightmare. I can't imagine him surviving it.
Just imagine the tantrums every night after court.

(16,439 posts)I can't even imagine what a rude awakening this is for him.
Most of us start learning what "No" means when we're toddlers. This is a full grown, elderly man who is just beginning to kinda sorta get a little taste of what it means. Oh, Donald, you have SO MUCH more learning to do!

(220 posts)half empty 2000 seat venues filled with people who, collectively, have five teeth. Man, the media sucks with it's memes that support a dictator wannabe who would put most of those very media people in jail. Schmucks.

(3,498 posts)Came across an article covering the first day of this trail. The reporter seemed to be disappointed after noting the lack luster public response. The number of press people outnumbered the TFG supporters, who outnumbered the number of TFG protesters. No count on the number of security people involved in this circus.
I don't think the M$M realizes just how many of us would really like to f-cking move on from this sh-t show (but we can't until this stupid election is over). There are precious few in this country who genuinely haven't made up their mind about TFG.
There's a term applicable to the M$M's relationship with TFG. It's "press" and a word that starts with "wh" and rhymes with bore. Or more nicely put, algorithm chasers.

(16,439 posts)He said he took a walk Monday morning, and there were maybe a couple dozen Trumpers outside the courthouse and at least as many anti-Trump protesters.
It was so quiet, according to Lawrence, that there were babies sleeping outside the courthouse. He took pictures to prove it and showed them on TV, all while talking about how many Trump supporters live within a two hour drive of that courthouse, compared to the few that showed up. I was in stitches!
P.S. I should have checked the Cable News Clips before posting! Here's a link to Rhiannon12866's post with the video of this segment:

(2,218 posts)It matters so much and Dopey Diaper Don has sooo much money, maybe a couple of million could get the school to reschedule or have a small private ceremony for his son's graduation where he could take over as speaker and say what he wants. I am sure his son would love that.

(36,112 posts)Classic ego defenses are denial, displacement, projection, rationalization, reaction formation, repression, and sublimation.
At trump's age, add sleep, since he spends most of his waking hours using the classic defenses -- the public calls them lies -- to prop his narcissistic personality disorder.

(12,819 posts)Saw a DU post earlier that made this point, citing one of the TV shows that avoids the "hush money" framing and puts the court proceedings in their proper context.
Sorry, I don't recall whose post or which show. But it's a damn good point to be made!
