YouGov poll: 57% of Americans -- a new high -- say Trump's alleged crimes are 'serious' as hush money trial begins

As the first criminal trial of a former U.S. president kicks off this week in Manhattan, more Americans than ever before (57%) say the underlying crimes that defendant Donald Trump has been charged with — “falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to a porn star” — are “serious,” according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

That number is up six percentage points from the last time Yahoo News and YouGov asked about the hush money case, in December 2023. The previous high was 54% in September 2023. The survey of 1,746 U.S. adults, which was conducted from April 11 to 15, found similar increases in the perceived seriousness of Trump’s other alleged felonies as well:

Nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%, a new high) now say that “conspiring to overturn the results of a presidential election” is a serious crime, up from 66% in December. A full 69% (another new high) now say “taking highly classified documents from the White House and obstructing efforts to retrieve them” is a serious crime, up from 63% in December. And the same share (69%) now say that “attempting to obstruct the certification of a presidential election” is a serious crime, up from 64% in December.

A majority of Americans, meanwhile, say Trump should not be allowed to serve again as president if convicted in the hush money case (51%) — a number that includes 16% of Republicans. Just 34% of Americans say he should be allowed to serve again if convicted in the Manhattan case.

E. Jean Carroll case
tax fraud case
election interference hush Stormy case
Georgia EC case, then the J6 case, and then on to what he did when out of office in the classified documents case. Only thing uncovered so far is what he did while in office, including the Barr fixer/Unitary Executive guy, and I wonder where SCOTUS will weigh in on immunity.

BTW, did they catch the bomber yet? It's in the J6 Bundle.

But these media polls make you wonder ... just who are they asking these questions? How are they qualifying the responses? It's amazing to me that the response isn't 99% against Chump.

It seems that Yahoo News isn't making much effort to exclude Russian trolls and MAGA cultists.

which used to be polling point for almost 20 years. Most polls are about products and I started it for fun and continued because they tend to swing conservative so wanted my side in there. I missed this poll.

I always wonder how they can get a fair rating on any of their polls because they know from all of my past polls that I am a democrat, they ask, and they also ask if you are a strong one or not. Of course I am.

So they must take a certain percentage of people who answered like that for right, left and independent and hopefully people are changing.

Biden won with 51% of the vote in 2020.

It should impact the swing states enough to favor Biden.

Pop up to get through to an article yesterday on the Economy. Not here - but elsewhere.

I'm not very intrigued by their polls. I feel like they 'see me'.
