Former President Donald Trumps campaign has found a new way to press for badly needed cash.
In a letter received by Republican digital vendors this week, the Trump campaign is asking for down-ballot candidates who use his name, image and likeness in fundraising appeals to give at least 5 percent of the proceeds to the campaign.
Beginning tomorrow, we ask that all candidates and committees who choose to use President Trumps name, image, and likeness split a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC. This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising, Trump co-campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita wrote in the letter, which is dated April 15.
They add: Any split that is higher than 5% will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trumps campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.
The letter comes as Trump is struggling to close a fundraising gap with President Joe Biden. Bidens campaign has said that it has raised over $190 million, more than double what Trump has taken in. Trumps campaign has acknowledged that it will be outraised by Biden, though it has been looking to make up ground, with large and small donors alike. By asking Republican candidates to break off a chunk of their proceeds, the Trump campaign would enlarge its bank account.

Who needs this loser? Just another SCAM to funnel off money from down ballot candidates.
Joe Biden is HONORED that down ballot Democrats are including him in their campaigns and for FREE!

and limit TSF exposure simultaneously.
By all means; proceed

I like the idea of mentioning how his named VP escaped the gallows of conspired insurrection. TSF never need be mentioned; he's such a loser...

GOP candidates and campaign committees routinely reference Donald Trump in fundraising appeals. Now, the former president expects a 5% cut of the money.

Three years later, the former presidents posture has evolved, though its still awfully strange. NBC News reported:
In fact, according to a memo obtained by NBC News, Trumps co-campaign managers, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, requested a split of a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC. This includes but is not limited to sending to the house file, prospecting vendors, and advertising......
According to a report in Politico, which was first to report on this weeks memo, the former presidents operation insisted that the rationale behind the 5% take is to dissuade scammers from using Trumps brand without his permission and diluting his ability to raise cash.
And who knows, maybe theres some truth to this explanation. But its far easier to believe that Trump and his team are badly in need of cash; theyre trailing President Joe Biden and his operation in the dash for campaign funds; theres only so much money to be made selling Trump-endorsed Bibles and gold sneakers; and this 5% take might help give the presumptive GOP nominee a modest boost at a time of need.
