"No, Bidens rallies werent bigger. No, you didnt see any Biden flags on houses or Biden bumper stickers on cars. No, you dont know a single person on your street or at your church who supports Biden. But guess what? Were here.
Bidens rallies were small because people who live in reality dont want to expose themselves to the virus you continue to downplay or deny. We dont fly Biden flags because we dont want our houses burned down. We dont put Biden bumper stickers on our cars because we want to avoid becoming targets for road rage.
We dont trust you. We decided to minimize our interactions with people who cannot be reasoned with. This is for our own safety.
In private groups where your not invited we share our bewilderment of your descent into madness.
We all have stories about how weve cut ties with you, our family and former friends, because we dont want your hatred poisoning our social media streams. We cant stand to listen to you vomiting the lies of your cult, day after day.
You used to be different. We liked you. But now that we know what was inside your heart all along, weve decided you dont deserve to know about our lives. Well skip family reunions, even after we get the vaccine. Well make up some excuse just to be polite. But in reality, we just dont feel like sitting around eating potato salad and making small talk with people who have such monstrous beliefs.
To all the brothers and aunts and cousins and dads and neighbors out there who just cant wrap their heads around what this means going forward, know that these scars arent going away anytime soon. We wont be reaching out, and we wont be mending fences. Its not up to us to apologize for the wounds you have gleefully inflicted upon us and our friends.
You poured the gasoline, you lit the match. You burned this to the ground. So if we seem different from now on, I guess we are. Weve seen your truth laid bare, and were horrified. I hope Trump was worth it.

I wonder where she is living now, that brave soul!
For those of you who dont know about The Villages, it is a large (I mean LARGE - over 170K residents), 98.5 %white, probably 98.5% republican. About 3% non native born.
The only news we hear about them is when a democratic resident attempts something like this.
During the last national election, one brave soul decorated his golf cart ( there are more golf carts than cars in the community) with all sorts of democratic slogans and signs.
That was unusual enough for news crews to go out and film him.

(2,371 posts)Mostly retired, white and Republican. All the screaming from clowns like them about voter fraud and there were, IIRC, two or three assholes from The Villages who were arrested for voter fraud. Ill have to dig up the story.
AHA! Found it. Was more than three! Their convictions/guilty pleas didnt come until this past December, from what it looks like.

(96 posts)Well stated. All the BS the magas spewed about Covid/vaccines ended up costing this country thousands of lives. I will stay off social media (Facebook) and avoid the people I used to have conversations with in my own family and circle of acquaintances due to the toxicity you described better than I could.

But here we are, dealing with it AGAIN for the 3rd election in a row.

(277 posts)Thanks for posting! MANY, MANY of us "out here" feel this way. We've had to become suspicious of our family, friends, and neighbors out of distrust and fear. We're concerned that our political leanings will cause us to be not only criticized, but attacked. We fear the Maga-Madness that has invaded our society. We can't put pro-choice, pro-Biden, pro-LGBTQ flags, banners, stickers on our windows, on our cars, in our yards. without fearing right-wing retribution.
We watch our fellow Americans daily swallowing b.s. about the state of our country while simultaneous seeing things improve, gasoline prices going down or remaining stable, the economy generally picking up.
And worst of all, we endlessly witness far too many "good Americans," who like the "good Germans" of the 1940's, worshiping, revering, praising, and financing a felonious criminal who appears to be hell bent on destroying Democracy, by denigrating, and demeaning those who still believe in liberty and justice for all.
To borrow, and somewhat mangle, a quote: Is this the way the world ends; not with a bang but a whimper?"

I wonder how she survives in that marriage! When I go there we just dont talk politics so as not to cause fights. One ex brother in law used to called us the looney liberals from California. Im sure hes a major magaloon now!

(175,748 posts)I never liked him. Back in the early 1980s when I first started hearing and reading about him, he creeped me out. Maybe it was the godawful taste, the smug grin, the ego, or a combination of all that and more.
He had an ick factor that has only worsened. YMMV.

"because we don't want our houses burned down."
Uhh... make that "because we don't want you or your fellow maniacs burning our houses burned down because we "insulted" your orange monster god.
"We don't trust you."
Better: because you're a proven violent lunatic.
"We wont be reaching out, and we wont be mending fences. Its not up to us to apologize for the wounds you have gleefully inflicted upon us and our friends."
Truth: you're dead to me and I don't want you back in my life.
Yeah, I sound harsh. Good! Trust me on this: I use much more explicit language irl. I toned it down because some people seem to think that some good, old-fashioned, 4 letter words are worse than describing that thing accurately. I don't agree, but I can refrain from inflicting words on other people.

(32,727 posts)Magats are dangerous bullies. It's not safe to openly show support and it's not necessarily because they outnumber us. All it takes is one unhinged (and armed) magat to cause an issue.
