Not the cubs themselves, but the idea that people would molest them for selfies. If I had been there, I would have been beat up by these ignorant morons, because I definitely would have gone after them.

(16,912 posts)It is natural instinct to defend and use whatever means necessary to protect them.
Stupid humans who interfere with that natural order take their lives into their own hands. Especially when it comes to Bears. the thought of 3 plus inch sharp nails tearing apart flesh does not sound very appealing.

(18,015 posts)Momma grizz would have put a stop to that quickly and violently. She's roughly double the size and far more aggressive than blacks.
Human stupidity never ceases to amaze me.

(598 posts)are far less aggressive than brown bears and actually pretty timid. They rarely attack humans, even when they are near cubs. I've walked up on cubs before with a mother nearby. Her only response was to stand and grunt, which caused the cubs to run away with her following. There was never an indication that she wanted to fight.
Very likely the mother was close by, but didn't want to confront multiple humans.

(42,007 posts)Youd be amazed. People tried to raise them, separate them from their mothers, destroy their habitats, bait them, all manner of insane things. And theyre really hard to release after theyve been with humans for any length of time.
Guess where I was
yep, North Carolina.

(832 posts)Probably the only thing that kept mama bear off them was their sheer number. Even at that, though, they're lucky -and they don't deserve to be lucky.
So many people treat nature as if it's a city park, and the animals as if it's a petting zoo. I've done a lot of camping in and around the Great Smokies and have seen some amazingly foolish (and sometimes funny) things.

(22,247 posts)People who are horrifyingly clueless. I know black bears are fairly placid creatures, but I wish this mama had ripped these idiots apart. Except then she'd be deemed a menace to society, and shot.

(22,247 posts)"Patrick Conley, who lives in Asheville, North Carolina, has many online followers. He has become famous because some very uncommon but friendly and adorable visitors from the forest frequently visit his house.
He has been living in Asheville for many years and gets visits from bears every now and then. Recently, a bear who Patrick has named Simone and her cubs visited his home.
Simone has been visiting his house since she was a cub. Patrick had watched her grow from a baby to a full-grown bear. But this is the first time Patrick has seen her with a pair of cubs."
