They're just trying to phrase the bills so they can slither through legal scrutiny, but make no mistake, these bills are coming to a fascist state near you, and they won't let silly little state lines or protective laws slow them down. Read up on the Escaped Slave Chasers and you'll be getting warm. You thought Sauron was bad? You ain't seen nuthin' yet! Republicans run amok will make him look like a Girl Scout.

(5,587 posts)You and I along with millions of Americans are SEETHING with anger over Repukes slowly destroying our democracy and freedom itself.
EVERY SINGLE REPUKE POLITICIAN needs to be voted out of office at every level of government.
Maybe then the party will eject the racists, homophobes, criminals, and especially the Putin-loving TRAITORS.
We can then return to a sane, sensible 2 party system where ideas are debated, not ignorant bigotries.

(7,052 posts)will not remove them from civilization. And there will be enogugh of them to form a very credible third party. Furthermore, there are people being born every day with whatever character defect that is which causes people to become racists and hoophobes (and misogynists.) And yes, I say born - because if that trait came from nurture, not from nature, we woudld not now have Paul Gosar or Stephen Miller or RFK Jr. I realize that is not scientific proof, but I find itvonvoncing.

(61,895 posts)It's important to recognize that the right wingers in California and New York are just as extreme as the ones in Alabama and Texas. It's just that they're slightly outnumbered, for now.
Our politics is winner take all. As soon as the Republicans get an edge they enact their agenda. It's just who has the majority in state government. .

(710 posts)... crave dominion over the lives of others. There is even a crazed and fanatical pseudo-Christian sect of would-be traitors that call themselves "Dominionists". Think Wahhabism, but Christian. On steroids. WAY not good.

(1,916 posts)Of what is and isn't part of the religion, or who does or doesn't belong to it?
It's dishonest to call them pseudo anything, when they are practicing Christianity. It's different from that of other Christians, but that doesn't make it not Christian. You also do not know any of them, so it's not your place to question their beliefs or the sincerity of it.
According to them, your kind of Christianity is fake, so-called, pseudo and so forth. Who's to say they aren't right? After all, they're practicing it the way many Christians have practiced it for centuries--and as per what the book itself has to say on the matter.

(710 posts)... aren't we snippy.
Get this through your head: These people want to impose their belief system on everyone, regardless of whether or not they share any aspect of their worldview. They want to make America another theocracy; that is their publicly stated goal. I will fight that as long for as I live. I'm pretty sure I've been on this mortal plane a damn sight longer than you have, and, as I'm fond of saying, I've seen some shit. And the very worst of that shit has been perpetrated by religious fanatics who claim that their way is the ONLY way. So I afford zero credence to your premise. When people presume to claim some sort of divine guidance, I just walk away. Unless, of course, they attack me for stating my beliefs.
So who made you the final arbiter of what I'm allowed to write as demonstrable, documented fact about a group that wants to overthrow our democracy? Do you really want to go there?

Lovely.
How many states are trying to do this now? now? Anybody keeping track? I gave up on keeping track of the anti-abortion crazy a while back myself.
The whole "making laws about where a state's residents are allowed to travel strikes me as unconstitutional af, but what do I know?
In addition to that part of it, I don't understand how they expect to enforce this. Are they going to stop every car that has a woman in a certain age range in it and do roadside pregnancy tests like in this ad? What about women who want to fly somewhere out of state, or take a Greyhound bus or something? Are they going to stake out every airport, bus depot, and train station? (I don't don't know if Alabama has any passenger rail service, but what if?)
What happens if a pregnant woman wants to travel to another state for non-abortion-related reasons, to visit family or for business travel or a million other possibilities? Do they actually think they can keep every single pregnant woman in Alabama from ever setting foot outside the state for the whole 9 months? I have SO MANY questions!

Vern Miller in Kansas stopped all liquor by the drink. He stopped trains and confiscated their liquor and left them stranded. No fly over Kansas with liquor, the airlines complied. They stopped our cars lots of times, the local police looking for drugs and sniffing for weed. The stores had rules to follow for selling liquor. They had all of us constantly looking out. When he was seen near the University we had a call chain and every house and residence flushed their toilets making a huge deal but we helped each other out. He stopped all our cars when we were out on dates checking everything in the car, around the car, in our purses or pockets. The asshole was very popular. Driving over the boarder was never a for sure stop but they could stop any of us at any time. I remember my mother, who loved her drink, hiding liquor all over the car after her run to KC, Mo. for a load of booze. This was in the 1970's. Of course they can stop us for a pregnancy test, all it takes is for these little Jesus snoops to make it illegal to abort then illegal to travel over state lines without a pregnancy test. If they can figure any way to legally do this it will be done.

(19,444 posts)You take the most extreme bans with the most extreme enforcement, and that's what the GOP wants to make nationwide.
And yes, if they get the power to do it, it will include travel bans, prison for women who have or even seek abortions, and eventually the death panelty for abortion doctors. And they'll want to monitor pregnant women too to make sure they aren't doing aything to risk their pregnancy. Eventually they'll have camps for prgnant women who are at a "high risk" for wanting to end their pregnancies.
If the country elects Trump, all of this will come to pass.
